Job description

The University of Iowa is seeking an Asset Management Specialist position. This position will m aintain accountability for the University's capital assets by performing capital accounting, coordinating tagging of physical assets, assisting with financial reporting & reconciliation, conducting audit research, and performing recurring review of capital assets records.

This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the and .

Duties to Include:

• Analyze vouchers and complete asset setup from general ledger activity. This includes researching expenses and knowledge of GAAP and University capitalization policy. Research ledger activity and appropriately capitalize expenses per GAAP and University policy. Correct general ledger accounting entries when necessary.
• Process asset forms and adjust assets as required.
• Identify and monitor lease entry activity.
• Compile construction in progress (CIP) account balances to ensure capitalizations are completed on time and accurately. Provides report findings and recommendations to Sr. Accountant and/or Director.
• Must understand and comply with the University of Iowa and UIHC policies, as well as GASB accounting standards as it relates to capital assets.

Location: Remote within Iowa

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

About the Controller's Office:

The Controller's Office, a division of Finance and Operations, is comprised of several departments that provide a wide range of business, accounting, and reporting services on behalf of, and for, the university community. These services are essential for the University of Iowa to pursue its mission of teaching, research, and public service.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum six months accounting experience.
• Minimum six months excellent customer service skills interacting in person, on the phone, or via email.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. (A written exercise will be included as part of the interview process).
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated competence, analytical skills and report presentation using MS Excel spreadsheet software or other similar software.
• Must be able to move/traverse distances across campus; may be required to position self as needed to tag capital assets (such as near floors, behind or under equipment).
• Must be proficient with software applications with the ability to create, manipulate and extensively use Microsoft Excel. (An Excel exercise will be included as part of the interview process).

Desired Qualifications:

• Knowledge of University polices/procedures.
• Asset Management experience.
• Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financials, E-Pro, and AP/PO systems.
• Experience with Microsoft Access.
• Beyond 1 year accounting experience.
