Job description
Primary Function:
We are seeking a Christ-centered, passionate and experienced school counselor to become a member of a dynamic team oriented counseling department. The candidate will support and advocate for students in their personal, social, and academic development. The school counselor's responsibilities include conducting assessments to evaluate students' abilities, assisting students with career planning, and ensuring students have all the tools to become productive and well-adjusted adults. Our ideal candidate will be prepared to assist any of our students with personal or academic issues in a compassionate, patient and adaptable manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Listen to and provide support and guidance for students' social, academic, and personal concerns, circumstances and problems.
- Mediate and improve relationships between students, parents, and teachers.
- Counsel individuals and groups as required.
- Conduct classroom guidance lessons.
- Conduct assessments to determine students' strengths, weaknesses, interests, and aptitudes, and then work with students to develop and improve their skill set.
- Assist students in the development of long-term college and career goals.
- Crisis management
- Refer students to other support services and mental health professionals as needed.
- Conduct IGP meetings to advise students and parents with course selections, credits earned, and graduation requirements.
- Manage requests for schedule changes at the beginning of each semester
- Provide support in the admissions process, to include viewing and advising new applicant records and creating schedules upon admission
- Support and/or coordinate educational programs (including evening events) and instructional resources related to college and career planning
- Assist student academic and career development using SCOIR database
- Work with the counseling team to provide meaningful interpretations and efficient utilization of student data
- Maintain affiliations with professional organizations (NACAC, SACAC, ASCA, PSSCA) and attend relevant professional development conferences
- Any other duties as assigned to support the school counseling team
Requirements
Education:
BS/BA degree in Counseling or related field preferred; Masters in School Counseling required
Experience:
Previous teaching experience- 3-5 years preferred.

- Be a born-again Christian, committed to the Lord, exhibiting a close and dynamic daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- Be in agreement with and able to support the school’s Statement of Faith.
- Be a student of God's Word and be able to apply Biblical truth in speaking and counseling situations.
- Place the oneness of the Body of Christ above membership in a particular denomination or church.
- Understand the distinctives of Christian education and HHCA and be committed to those distinctives.
- Working knowledge of counseling models, methods, and resources
- Demonstrate humility (thinking of others before self, living with gratitude for God’s provision), hunger (the desire for growth, yearning for deeper relationships with God and others), and a healthy attitude (working together as a community, communicating and interacting with one another in a genuine, honest, and encouraging way)
- Be an active supporter and promoter of HHCA in the classroom, with parents and in the community at large.
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with staff, students, faculty and parents.
- Have a teachable spirit and be able to take criticism with a willingness to learn and grow.
