Job description
Responsibilities:
Plans, organizes and implements a diverse set of Physical Development programs suited to the unique needs, abilities and interests of residents and respite care participants.
Is aware of resident's physical abilities/limitations/changes in medical situations and reports any changes in resident's condition to the Nurse Supervisor. Develops written Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals and objectives to address the unique needs/interests of residents.
Documents per policy on resident's attendance and IPP goal progress. Serves as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team meetings.
Periodically develops quarterly assurance audits of Aquatic/PD Department.
Supervises Lead Certified Activity Assistant, Certified Activity Assistants, volunteers and other assigned staff.
Purchases supplies/equipment; keeps inventory and maintains a current accounting of expenses. Makes recommendations for annual budget needs and supplies.
Assists with planning and implementation of Special Olympics/MATPs, 5K, Camp Fairlee, Family visits or any special event program offered to support residents recreational or physical well-being.
Ensures trip protocols are followed and completed in accordance with Policy and Procedures.
Requirements:
The Physical Development Specialist must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology, Physical education or a related discipline. This position must hold, or be willing to obtain lifeguard, CPR and first aid certifications. Must have the ability to lift and transfer an adult by utilizing safe lifting procedures per MCC policy when required.
