COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Our client develops life-changing medicines for patients using advanced structure-based and computational drug discovery technology. The company’s platform combines the latest advancements in visualization of molecular interactions, computational chemistry, and data integration to design orally available, superior small molecule medicines that overcome current limitations of biologic and peptide drugs. They are advancing a clinical-stage pipeline of differentiated treatments focused on chronic diseases with high unmet need, including cardiovascular, metabolic, and pulmonary conditions.
LOCATION: South San Francisco, CA. Hybrid. 3 days per week.
Position Summary The Vice President of Finance will oversee the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Risk Management, SOX Compliance and Internal Audit functions, supporting and promoting the company’s annual goals and objectives.
The ideal candidate will have public company experience in environments within the biotech/pharma industry. We seek a hard-working, team player who will interact collaboratively with the entire management team and play a key role in implementing our financial management processes across our organization, including working with finance team members in global office locations. The position will report to the CFO and will work directly with the CFO keeping him current with developments and transactions occurring in the Tax, Treasury, Risk Management, FP&A and SOX functions
Essential Duties and responsibilities - Manage and oversee the Company’s FP&A process and reporting role managed by the Sr. Director of FP&A, including global annual budget preparation, quarterly forecasts, budget vs actual monthly reporting and long-range planning
- Manage and oversee the Company’s Tax role with the Sr. Director of Tax reporting to you, including global and domestic tax preparation for the Cayman Islands, United States, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Australia
- Mange and oversee the Company’s Treasury role managed by the Sr. Director of Tax including management of our investment portfolio with Capital Advisors Group and management of all banking relationships and company global and domestic accounts
- Manage and oversee the Company’s Insurance Risk Management role managed by the Sr. Director of Tax, which includes corporate General Liability Policies, EPIL, Clinical Trial, Workers Compensation and D&O Policies
- Manage and oversee the Company’s Sox Compliance and Internal Controls role managed by the Sr. Director of Sox Compliance and Internal Controls, including Material Weakness remediation collaboration with Connor Group Consultants, and transitioning from 404(a) compliance to 404(b) compliance during 2024
- Be process owner and compliant for all SOX narratives, RCMs, and testing for all Tax, Treasury and Risk Management processes
- Ad Hoc assignments as delegated by the CFO
REQUIREMENTS Education - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
Preferred Education - Master's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
Experience - 15 years of experience in overall financial operations, including partial exposure in either or all of FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Insurance Risk Management and SOX Compliance
- Expertise in financial systems analysis and process to maximize management reporting as well as external reporting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with international and matrix organization independently and as part of a team
Preferred Experience - Experience in the biotech/therapeutics industry
Licenses or Certifications Travel - Yes. (Travel may be 1 domestic trip a quarter and 1 international trip per year.)
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $275,000-$330,000. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
