Specializing in supporting U.S. federal customers with internationally and thematically focused portfolios, we manage tailored professional training programs, deliver effective capacity building solutions, and provide specialized technical advisory and analysis expertise to decision makers.

We support the Area Studies Division at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Department of State by providing essential Area Studies training to State Department and USG personnel and contractors. We are currently seeking a subject matter expert instructor to serve as the Caribbean Course Coordinator.

**Overview:**

The objective of the course is to provide area knowledge to prepare foreign affairs professionals to carry out their responsibilities working in or on the Caribbean.

The purpose of the course is to equip participants with an understanding of the forces shaping modern Caribbean countries, including Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Belize, Guyana, Suriname, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Eastern Caribbean, and The Bahamas. It delves into historical and cultural factors influencing each country's development and explores major social, economic, and political issues. The seminar combines various interactive activities, including lectures, discussions, field trips, documentaries, debates, and presentations.

**Duties:**

The course runs multiple times throughout the year, with some iterations held consecutively over 5 days and others non-consecutively. The successful candidate must be available to manage the course for the duration of the scheduled class time, whether in-person or remotely.

Responsibilities of the Course Coordinator include:

- Managing and conducting the course, ensuring adherence to instructional design and delivery standards.
- Utilizing FSI-provided templates and branding for consistent classroom experience.
- Delivering lectures, leading discussions, introducing guest speakers, and presenting study materials.
- Employing dynamic facilitation and instruction techniques for effective online learning.
- Coordinating with support staff, guest speakers, and course evaluators.
- Collaborating with Area Studies Chair for planning and review meetings.
- Providing error-free course materials and meeting FSI requirements.

**Requirements:**

- PhD preferred; Master's degree required.
- Experience in instructional design and engaging training for adult learners.
- Substantive expertise and recognition as an expert in Caribbean studies.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online learning platforms.
- Fluency in English required; fluency in local languages desirable.
