Job description

 

The ISR Systems and Architectures Group performs analysis and experimentation to develop concepts for filling critical gaps in U.S. Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. This work includes evaluating mission needs by considering future operational scenarios, and developing options for addressing these needs through advanced technologies and novel system concepts. Studies within the group cover a broad range of technical areas, including advanced sensor systems, new platforms, communications, navigation solutions, and data exploitation approaches. The analysis topics and questions are typically posed by senior leaders in the Department of Defense, and the work of the group is briefed out widely to help inform critical decisions and impact future acqu isitions.

Job Description

The Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Systems and Architectures Group is seeking a summer graphic artist intern to work on graphic arts and scientific illustration for projects related to the analysis of ISR and tactical systems.

 

The graphic artist intern will work on scientific illustration and graphic content for the technical staff and technical interns in the ISR Systems and Architectures Group. The intern will be responsible for following established workflows and managing deadlines. They will learn the Lincoln Laboratory and ISR Systems and Architecture Group graphic style, and how to effectively manage assets and work with the group. The intern will have assignment-based training on the job with regular mentorship, as well as opportunities to work and network with other graphic artists at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. The intern will also receive mentorship in other important practical skills, such as communications (with scientists, technical researchers, and peers), organizational and workflow strategies, and time management. The intern will be working onsite under the supervision of a member of the group’s graphics team. Office space, a computer, and relevant design software will be provided.

 

The successful intern will be an undergraduate or graduate student with the intent of pursuing a career in scientific and educational graphics and communication. Experience with Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft PowerPoint is required. Due to the nature of the subject matter, all work completed during this internship will be considered work for hire, and will not be available to the intern’s personal portfolio.

 

Position Duration: Approximately 3 months (May-August timeframe)

 

Qualifications for Internship:

 

 

Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
