We are looking for a Manager to join us in the Machine Shop Department. You will report to the Operations Excellence Manager and will have an onsite work schedule. We are currently recruiting nationwide for an individual with a background in lead production and process improvement tools.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Develop and implement a future strategy for the machine shop, including the evaluation and purchase of new or used machining equipment, process control, productivity improvements, a staffing development plan and rapid prototyping. You will facilitate the implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace by encouraging employee involvement in process improvement activities, and works to cultivate the teaming environment within the Machine Shop.
- Create a culture of continuous improvement, team problem solving and a learning organization by meeting with the leadership team regularly, reflecting on the health of the people, processes, problems, solutions and challenges.
- Be visible to employees, provide coaching, information, ideas, feedback and encouragement to production coaches, associates and the site to promote development of the value stream team.
- Encourage change and eliminate waste through the entire value stream.
- Working with process owners, implement standard work and provide feedback to improve the internal processes to support the needs of the value stream.
- Working with resource managers, identify technical skills required of the work force and develop people to acquire and retain these skills.
- Provide regular performance feedback to direct staff. This information shall be used by Coaches as part of the employee’s performance management.
- Direct machining operations and be competent in practices, procedures, and equipment throughout the machine shop to coordinate machining operations.
- Capacity planning, assuring workflow, interface with production control, and distribution of resources to meet delivery schedules.
- Budget responsibility for all production machining, rapid prototyping and tooling support
- Support machining activities with external suppliers or subsidiaries.
- Select and develop machine shop employees, lead person, and production coaches. Assist, support and direct the lead person within all three shifts to perform all technical aspects of their job.
- Understand the business strategies and develop execution action plans that support the strategy and needs of the business.
Required Software: MS Office
Required Experience:
- 5-10 years’ experience in a machine shop position with exhibited leadership in a functional area, i.e. Business, Technical Operations.
- Demonstrated experience with lean production, process improvement tools
- Experience facilitating meetings to meet Value Stream goals.
- Experience providing feedback to other team members.
- Experience developing employees’ abilities in communication while promoting a large-scale collaboration of resources and talents across departments and sites
Required Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in related field
Position: Direct Hire
Travel: 50% domestic and international required
