Introduction
Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is recruiting to fill a Medical Assistant position. This position works daytime hours, Monday-Friday.
WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary As a Medical Assistant you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Serving as an assistant to the medical providers/ Licensed Independent Practitioners (LIP).
- Assisting with initial physical assessments of new admissions and patient medical issues.
- Organizing schedules.
- Preparing necessary documents required for assessments and sick call.
Salary Information The starting pay is $19.52 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Medical Assistant 2 and is in pay schedule and range 06/11.
Job Details - All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
- A TB screen will be required prior to start.
- DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Qualifications Minimally qualified applicants will have both of the following:
- Experience working as a medical assistant (e.g., preparing exam rooms, taking and recording vital signs, collecting blood or other specimen samples, assisting with patient examinations or treatments, performing electrocardiogram (EKGs), etc.)
- Experience working with Electronic Health Records software.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience working with Cerner.
- Experience in wound care.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant.
