Professor Siovahn Williams presented her innovative work on recruiting and retaining BIPOC educators at the Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges of Teacher Education Annual Meeting and The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Annual Meeting on Feb. 16-18, in Denver, Colorado.

Prof. Williams is one of Carthage’s rising stars and faculty members. She is the director of the Master of Education program, ACT program, and Urban Teacher Preparation Program in the Education Department. Prof. Williams and members of the department are strong local and national advocates for better recruiting and retaining future BIPOC educators.

Prof. Williams presents her work on recruiting and retaining BIPOC educators. Prof. Williams presented on how departments, schools, and colleges of education might better recruit and retain students of color who want to be teachers. Carthage and Prof. Williams, along with Professor Michele Hancock, are at the forefront of the the nation’s efforts to educate more teachers of color and to help place those teachers in areas of greatest need.
