Process Safety Professional

Job Summary:

The Marathon Martinez Renewable Fuels Facility is seeking a Process Safety Professional to oversee our process safety policies, programs and practices. The hours of the position are: 9/80 OR 5/40 schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret and/or develop Martinez Renewables process safety policies and guidelines, develops methods and procedures for implementing them, and audits conformance. Advise appropriate managers and supervisors of the Company's goals and requirements; provides guidance and technical assistance inorganizing and establishing programs to implement such requirements.

• Function as site HSE Incident Coordinator, PHA coordinator, DOT Coordinator; and provides primary support for maintaining PSM tracking systems.

• Provide general Process Safety Support to Operations Leadership

• Assist in Identifying current and developing process safety problems/issues and regulatory compliance/changes and/or emerging issues and provides recommendations to address such problems.

• Monitor compliance with process safety policies in assigned areas; directs related reports and recommendations to appropriate personnel.

• Investigate significant refinery HES incidents such as loss of primary containment, injuries, etc. to determine cause and contributory circumstances; confers with appropriate personnel to plan and initiate steps to prevent recurrences; informs management of action taken.

• Develop process safety information, manuals, training material and programs; informs employees of related policies and procedures; conducts appropriate training sessions.

• Participate in trade associations activities such as AFPM. Maintains a working knowledge of issues and key industry contacts and disseminates pertinent information.

• Ensure credible partnering relationships with all refinery department staff in order to properly influence process safety mindset, compliance, and ownership of process safety systems.

• Maintain sufficient professional expertise and proficiency in discipline to achieve Company expectations and perform technical assignments.

Education, Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum or related) with at least 2 years of relevant years of experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience in a process industry; OR High School diploma or GED with 10 years of relevant safety experience in a process industry.

• Must have working knowledge and experience implementing process safety elements.

• Must have general understanding and application of the process, process hazards, corrosion mechanisms and safeguards for the type of facility/unit(s) assigned.

• Must be able to understand and apply qualitative and quantitative process safety risk evaluation methods on simple scenarios and processes (e.g. MOC, PHA, LOPA, risk calibration, facility siting)

• Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.

• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery, be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

• Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)

• Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

• Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

• The hours of the position are 9/80 OR 5/40 schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Intelex is preferred.
