PRINCIPAL QA ENGINEER SRS

JOB SUMMARY:
- Apply technical and quality engineering experience in specialization to resolve complex problems.
- Incorporate advanced technical and quality engineering practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem-solving and program planning.
- Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area of technical and quality engineering specialization.
- Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering and quality assurance principles; evaluate the results of programs through surveillance, monitoring, assessments, and reviews; prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations; and, identify and recommend improvements where established technology, methodology, and procedures are inadequate for solution.
- Keep informed of the advancement of technology and requirements as applied within one's area of specialization and expertise.
- Develop QA programs and procedures and ensure compliance and effective execution of technical and quality assurance requirements.
- Be accountable for compliance with the approved schedules and ensure that personnel under one's technical guidance are appropriately trained and effectively utilized.
- Prepare plans, including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements, to solve technical and quality engineering tasks identified by management. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor budget expenditures, and review the quality of work completed to ensure that technical and quality requirements are met.
- Serve on a Facility Review Board, providing QA expertise in support of facility start-up and/or operation. Support facility/project needs within the assigned area by conducting procurement, procedure, and work package reviews.
- Communicate objectives and results to customers, colleagues, and management. Prepare reports, professional papers, and articles for internal publication; Occasionally prepare reports for external publication. Communicate with DOESR personnel regarding the QA Program and corrective action status.
- Enhance expertise in the field through leadership in local technical societies.
- Demonstrate commitment to TQ concepts by active participation and successful implementation of Div./Dept. TQ initiatives.
- Serve as a QA expert in evaluating the QA Programs of major program participants, including subcontractors and suppliers, to recommend corrective actions, redirect efforts, and provide judgment regarding a project or facility's potential for success. Present findings to program or facility management and Site QA.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience:
****Must Meet one of the following education/experience guidelines:
- PH.D. degree in Engineering/Science with 5 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering experience in the fields of Operations, Maintenance, Construction, or Industrial Manufacturing
- MS degree in Engineering/Science with 8 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering experience in the fields of Operations, Maintenance, Construction, or Industrial Manufacturing
- BS degree in Engineering/Science with 10 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering experience in Operations, Maintenance, Construction, or Industrial Manufacturing.
- Non-technical degree with 13 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering experience in the fields of Operations, Maintenance, Construction, or Industrial Manufacturing
- At least 16 years of multi-disciplined professional Quality Assurance or engineering-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility in an operations, maintenance, construction, or manufacturing environment, of which ten years must have been in a senior position.Current or prior certification as a lead auditor.
- Current or prior certification as a lead auditor.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
- Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (“L” or “Q”) within the past two years. (preferred)
- Past SRNS Qual. and/or ASQC-Certified Quality Engineer (preferred).
Work Hours:
A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules; including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has a 30-minute unpaid lunch
Area Security Access:
The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments. Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (“L” or “Q”) within the past two years are preferred.
