Job description
Electrician - Utilities & Energy Services Facilities & Services Job Summary The Electrician's primary responsibility is to install, maintain, and troubleshoot systems and controls equipment on campus as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities - Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and evaluate direct digital control systems, VFDs, card access, fire and security alarm systems, ADA, and any associated electrical, fiber optic and electronic controls on other equipment.
- Proactive in identifying and bringing forward energy conservation items and practices.
- Perform record keeping for systems installed or maintained. Including documentation to be entered into AiM.
- Assists engineering staff as directed. Document deficiencies in existing systems. Assist in prioritizing the needed corrective work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Physical Demands 1. Daily work is assigned by the Foreperson/Sub-foreperson through work orders.
2. Cooperates with fellow members of shop 55, other F&S shop members and customers.
3. Supports the Mission, Vision, Values and Guiding Principles of Facilities & Services.
4. Must be able to walk, climb, bend, and crawl to gain access to or perform the work of an electrician in areas such as attics, crawl spaces, false floors, ceilings, poles, and scaffolding.
5. Must be able to lift related equipment overhead and hold it for prolonged periods of time due to the overhead placement of construction materials such as conduit and fixtures.
6. Must be able to lift related equipment and material, such as large panels and motors.
7. Must be able to work in temperature extremes, ranging from freezing weather to steam tunnels.
8. Must be able to work at heights to repair equipment located on poles or hung from tall ceilings such as lights in auditoriums.
9. Must be able work amid hazards of construction sites, such as dust and noise; and in areas such as coal-fired power plants, animal rooms, and laboratories.
10. Must be able to maintain good working relationships with campus customers, F&S employees, and supervision. Mutual dignity and respect being the key to good working relationships.
11. This position requires the ability to multi-task on a routine basis due to the number of issues that must be dealt with daily. The workload associated with the position can be stressful at times.
Minimum Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Electrician, with a minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, including apprenticeship or vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Electricians i.e. installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical systems, generators, transformers, motors and other electrical/electronic controls, electrical switchboard and other apparatus utilizing electricity, electrical, electronic and direct digital control systems, fire and alarm systems, and associated electrical, electronic and fiber optic equipment.
Preferred Qualifications - At least 3 years of experience installing building automation controls.
- VFD Start up certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Through knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code and University Building Standards.
- Electrical knowledge to recognize unsafe or faulty conditions in construction and utilization of electricity.
- Extensive experience reading, interpreting, and working from electrical drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams and blueprints.
- Professional skills to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment of various types.
- Ability to perform all tasks associated with skilled journeymen electricians.
- Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and AIM.
- Working knowledge of safety procedures.
- Ability to follow verbal or written instructions and directions.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 1262 - Electrician position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search close date. Salary is $46.05/hour which is based on the prevailing wage.
