Job description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and faculty to identify struggling students, pair students with academic interventions, and track student progress.
Chairs the Academic Adjustments Team (Specialist, Director of Learning Services, AP for Academics) to review documentation and to create and maintain academic adjustment plans for students with diagnosed learning differences.
Works with the Director of Learning Services to implement student learning plans.
Communicates effectively with parents regarding their son’s progress and learning needs as well as the school’s learning plans.
Offers workshops and sessions to develop students’ learning skills.
Serves as a liaison between parents and evaluators for students undergoing evaluation for learning differences.
Serves as Services for Students with Disabilities coordinator for standardized testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP).
Compiles longitudinal data that summarizes academic progress and deficiencies of students with diagnosed learning differences.
Implements instructional strategies and academic skills as specified in students’ learning plans and monitors student progress.
Collaborates with faculty to support student learning by identifying strategies, providing professional development and student academic skill workshops, and lending administrative support for embedded literacy instruction.
Holds staffings as necessary.
Advocates on behalf of students with learning difficulties within the school.
Serves as a member of the school’s Student Support Team.
Serves as a resource in the admissions process regarding students with diagnosed learning differences, including consulting with students’ grade schools, conducting interviews, and reviewing all submitted documentation.
Teaches in the Academic Support or Coaching Program.
Teaches/Assists in the incoming freshman summer school program, including assisting in the identification of additional academic support for summer school participants.
Remains current in the best practices for struggling students and those with learning differences.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's degree in education or equivalent with specific background in Special Education or Reading and Learning Disabilities, preferred Master's Degree
Experience in Catholic/Jesuit education.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Experience managing and coordinating programs.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with people of varied cultural and educational backgrounds.
Ability to meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.
Proficiency in basic technology applications including student information system, student performance management, adaptive learning, etc.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
This position is supervised by the Assistant Principal for Academics.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a 10-month faculty position.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires frequent contact with employees and students. It may require prolonged periods of standing, sitting and driving along with light lifting and bending.
