About this role
What will you be responsible for?
The Principal Advisor Geologist will:
- Act as an authority for mine geology, providing high level consulting in mine geology unit operations and geological modeling.
- Assist with mentoring and development of a global pool of Newmont geologists.
- Ensure accurate implementation of and training on Newmont’s standards and best practices regarding geology at Newmont projects, operations, and exploration sites worldwide.
- Implementation of mine geology tools and techniques (mapping, data quality assessment).
- Engaging, collaborating, and establishing productive working relationships with Newmont sites internationally both remotely and via in person site visits (international travel is encouraged).
In this role you will
Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
- Recognize, promote, and implement global standard methodologies in technical deposit evaluations, geologic interpretations, 3D digital modeling, drill & assay data quality assurance/quality control, metallurgical definition sampling, and functional Investment System processes.
- We ensure and implement global corporate standards for the quality of geologic interpretations.
- Ensure accurate geological practices are employed at sites through mentoring, guidance, knowledge of key personnel, and regular site interactions to perform work as a member of cross functional teams.
- Efficiently communicate technical issues. We participate in or arrange site support of geological activities when required including geologic modeling, database reviews, geologic mapping, data quality control/quality assurance and ore control model at our global operations.
- Undertake project evaluation work of early-stage projects or external opportunities including geological models, grade estimation, and project economics to provide feedback on Enterprise Business Development / M&A opportunities.
- Review all geological aspects for major and minor projects and engage with the site project team and other technical fields as the project progresses through to the development phase and potentially to operations.
- Evaluate or develop programs or assist regional managers in evaluation of opportunities to discover or acquire new deposits or increase global mineable reserves, including the potential review of design, development, and technical management of drill programs.
- Show the ability to identify, mentor and develop high-potential technical staff and collaborate with exploration and mine staff in the exchange of geologic ideas and information.
- Use strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with, work within, lead and/or handle cross-functional teams. We work seamlessly with other technical teams and strive to improve both our own team and the other technical teams we work with. We maintain consistent and direct involvement with inter-disciplinary teams.
- Lead, coordinate and/or technically collaborate on functionally and globally diverse teams for small to large due diligence and corporate acquisition and merger opportunities. We are encouraged to recognize, quantify, and collect existing and future value of any natural resource prospect, discovery, project, or mine.

Education:
- B.SC. or B.A degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Must be a recognized Proficient/Qualified person by all national and international reporting standards.
Experience:
- A minimum of 12 years or more of validated experience in a mining and/or exploration environment. (M.Sc. or PhD will be credited as years of experience).
- Confirmed experience with operational and/or exploration geological activities related to open-pit or underground deposits.
- Extensive experience in 3D geologic modeling including the application of outstanding geologic modeling techniques and software packages. Leapfrog experience is preferred.
- Be a generalist in all aspects of mining and processing operations, geologic resource evaluation, development, and management of sophisticated mineral project opportunities.
- Be a subject matter authority in geologic/metallurgical data collection, interpretation and model development for large, bulk mineable gold-rich poly-metallic deposits, gold-copper porphyry deposits, disseminated gold deposits, and small high-grade underground deposits, with an applied knowledge of Archean greenstone shear-hosted gold deposits.
- Minimum 10 to 15 years’ experience in various resource development positions including district exploration, large development programs, feasibility studies and mine operations support. Must include 5-10 years of direct operations experience in various mining & processing methods and management responsibility at the chief geologist/superintendent/manager level.
- Position requires recognized experience with highly creative problem-solving skills through the application of technical knowledge, commensurate with the highest levels possible in the corporation.
- Work experience in multiple countries and cultures with varying socio-economic conditions is considered desirable.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must have effective verbal and written communications skills for presentations to site management, executive management, market analysts and outside parties.
- Ability to work with teams, peers, and managers.
- Ability to conduct and deliver results with only a general strategic mentorship framework. Position requires ability to work under a wide degree of freedom to think through problem resolution alternatives and options within a broadly defined project scope.
Working conditions & location
Where you will be located!
- The primary location for this position is our corporate headquarters in Denver, CO. However, qualified candidates in proximity to any or our regional offices or operations are encouraged to apply as remote options may be considered.
- The position may require you to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $138,240 to 164,160. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
