Summary:
Giner, Inc. is looking for an Electrochemical Staff Scientist or Senior Technician to improve our ability to understand and forecast the electrode slurry metrology, electrodes coating quality, and degradation of electrodes as part of cell assembly. This role works together with other scientists/engineers and is focused on Li-S battery cathode materials synthesis, analysis and durability spanning both our research and prototype Li-S pouch cell (>3 Ah size cells) development teams, bridging the gap to make sure we build the best Li-S cell that meets all of our requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Making battery electrodes slurries, measuring rheology and electrode coatings.
- Understanding the cathode coating requirements, coating homogeneity, drying conditions, and electrode coating density engineering.
- Making good quality coin cells and pouch cells.
- Background knowledge of different electrochemical techniques such as CV, EIS, capacity-voltage, DC resistance, and conductivity testing.
- Working with Maccor battery cyclers.
- Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments such as roll-to-roll coater, mixers, and test equipment.
- Responsible for data collection, observations, and documentation of test results.
- Write, update, and follow SOPs for fabrication of cells and related components
- Utilize programs like Microsoft Excel and Origin to analyze data and understand trends
- Maintain laboratory workspace and follow all safety guidelines in the lab
Required Qualifications: - Bachelors in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or similar field.
- Knowledge of Electrochemistry is required, specialized knowledge on lithium-sulfur or other battery technology is preferred.
- Work/research experience with advanced battery chemistries.
- Strong laboratory hands-on experience is required. Experience working on coin cell and pouch cell assembly, cathode/anode development, and battery cycling testing is preferred.
- Experience performing battery materials characterization via different analytical tools is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to work within project teams with strong desire to contribute and collaborate.
- Quick learner willing to work on different aspects of battery and energy storage research
- Self-motivated and takes initiative to solve problems and explore underlying mechanisms
