Overview Works under the supervision of the Office Manager and the Physicians. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs cardiac nuclear imaging using established policies and procedures. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to assess data reflective of patient status and to assist in the interpretation of this information. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works effectively within the office to maintain an environment of excellence, which is patient focused to provide timely, compassionate, quality patient care. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible and accountable for competent nuclear medicine examinations. Also, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for effectively communicating with staff to ensure patient quality care and is motivated with good interpersonal skills. The Technologist must comply with patient safety goals as well as OSHA, HIPAA, NRC and Virginia Bureau of Radiological Health guidelines.
What you will do - Assists in educating other personnel regarding purposes and procedures in the nuclear lab setting.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, co-workers and self by practicing sterile technique and preventing/containing radioactive contamination or spills. All spills/equipment malfunctions are reported to Office Manager and RSO. Awareness of ALARA policy and safe use of radioactive materials. Responsible for preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals to patients under the supervision of the physician.
- Maintain all equipment in safe, clean, working condition and maintains well-stocked work areas. Responsible for schedules, work area and other related matters and problems concerning these areas. Notifies management of any need for repair of equipment. Responsible for strong quality assurance program for all equipment and procedures while maintaining accurate records of these procedures.
- Demonstrates reliability and flexibility when meeting the needs of the customer, RHS and the department.
- Promotes respect and confidentiality for the patient and teaches the patient about his/her diagnostic studies and his/her disease process as well as assisting in educating other office personnel regarding purposes and procedures and practices guest relations.
- Perform diagnostic nuclear imaging studies, document data on appropriate forms and assist physicians in interpretation of nuclear data. Provide preliminary reports to ordering physicians and notify on-call physician as required.
- Represents RHS in a positive manner to our community and is knowledgeable of RHS community endeavors, RHS foundation and other relief. Works to link needs of patient population with community resource.
- Incorporates national patient safety initiatives in daily practice, follows procedures and complies with HIPAA, OSHA, NRC and Virginia Bureau of Radiological Health guidelines. Awareness and understanding of departmental policy/procedure and abides by all rules and regulations of the ICANL. Supports the Riverside Health System Code of Conduct and Compliance and Ethics Program. Reports any potential compliance concerns to the appropriate person.
Qualifications Experience - Nuclear Medicine (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications - Radiologic Technologists - The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (Required)
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technician (CNMT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board Inc (NMTCB) (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
