Reporting up to the Chief Financial officer, the Corporate Controller contributes to the overall success of the organization by effectively managing accounting and finance tasks for the organization. This position will oversee accounting, financial operations, and finance business technology functions for CWS, including accounts payable, general ledger accounting and payroll processing. In addition to these tasks this position will collaborate closely with program, local and regional offices, finance, and other staff to ensure compliance with CWS accounting and finance policies and procedures. This position also takes a key leadership role in ensuring the organization is prepared for future legislation including employment standards, occupation health and safety, human rights, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other key regulations applicable to non-government organizations.
General Ledger Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Establish, maintain, and deliver timely and accurate financial statements and reports which are appropriate for the users and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (both US GAAP and Local GAAP).
- Establish, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
- Process owner for corporate consolidation, external financial statements under US GAAP, and ensuring close deadlines are met.
- Responsible for regulating and producing accurate monthly general ledger, trial balance, and financial statements.
- Responsible for the oversight and supervision of accounting, fiscal operations, and financial management.
Financial Operations
- Design and execute best practices ensuring continuous improvement in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes, technology, and staff development.
- Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
- Establish organization and departmental policies and procedures to assure efficient operation of the department.
- Serve as a member of senior management, providing financial expertise to discussions related to both daily operations and long-term strategy.
- Provide financial expertise and relevant reports to the CFO and other senior leadership.
- Partners with external auditors, accountants, and consultants as needed.
- Perform other duties as directed by the CFO.
Financial Technology
- Analyze organizational needs to document system and process requirements.
- Interpret requirements to support effective prioritization and decision-making while providing configuration specifications to technical teams.
- Serve as a liaison between stakeholders across Finance, Operations, IT, and external vendors.
- Support ERP-end users in the adoption and ongoing delivery of the new ERP
- Provide support for ongoing ERP configuration management.
- Draft and deliver training materials to aid in the adoption of new technologies, processes, and/or operating models.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Accounting or Finance Majors Preferred.
Credentials:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified General Accountant (CGA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation Preferred.
Experience :
- Ten years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in an NGO, foundation, or USG with heavy concentration on budgeting, accounting, financial management, and reporting.
- Strong background and understanding of accounting/financial management principles.
- Ability to understand and interpret financial reports, analyze financial data for monitoring adherence to CWS guidelines.
- Excellent computer skills, preferably Microsoft Office® (Word, Excel, and Outlook in particular).
- Demonstrated experience in standard accounting software.
- Ability to act with sensitivity and discretion while working with highly confidential information.
- Excellent critical thinking and project management skills.
- Flexibility, patience, and the ability to work productively in a team environment and independently.
- Experience managing a team and demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
