MISO’s Software Engineering Team builds, sustains, and transforms software applications and services that directly enable the reliability of the bulk electric system and facilitate energy market participation. Our applications can be seen in the control room on real-time displays and online by energy market participants through the market portal. The Software Engineering Team’s vision is intelligent applications that empower the grid operations and energy markets of tomorrow. MISO’s Release Engineer Manager will manage two teams. For the Release Engineering Team, you will champion the reliable delivery of software through continuous improvement, and drive automation of the development pipeline to visualize key metrics such as code quality, test coverage, code review, application security scans, threat analysis results, build health, and more! For the Application Support Team, you will drive DevSecOps principles, champion the supportability of the applications, drive observability, improve incident response and deployment capabilities.
Provide technical leadership on technical direction, decisions, and roadmaps
Active knowledge of CI/CD landscape and direction
Manage CI/CD tools and pipeline as a partner to development teams with a focus on developer experience
Reducing overall application incidents, providing Tier-2 support, and maximizing Tier-1 ability to resolve issues
Contribute to design discussions and drive technical decisions
Promote a positive relationship with business partners and collaborate to plan, design, develop and test solutions, and be accountable for teamwork and quality
Set and coach release engineers and application support analysts professionals’ career paths, listening to long-term goals and aligning them with opportunities as they arise
Provide technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship and use coaching practices to give honest feedback
Write job descriptions, interview, and hire for vacant positions in an effective and timely manner
As MISO's Release Engineer Manager, you’ll need a solid understanding of modern software engineering and CI/CD methods and technologies. You’ll also need to demonstrate experience with some of the following areas:
DevOps/DevSecOps philosophy
Use of private and public cloud and desire to use modern development techniques
Agile Mindset/Transformation experience
End-to-end, high reliability system design and implementation
Application security, infrastructure security, and secure coding practices
Software quality engineering automation
CI/CD implementation, security, and maintenance
Pipeline tooling administration (GitHub Enterprise Server, Nexus)
Application support process definition and implementation
Coaching and mentoring, and previous leadership experience
At least 8 years in a technical role
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
