Job description
Large ship repair company is looking for skilled local Outside Machinists to perform work on Naval vessels. Must be able to report to their machine shop in Kent, and be open to working at Vigor Shipyard in Seattle as well as a couple other shipyards in western Washington.
Description:
The candidate will perform a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving various shipboard systems and components.
The mechanic must possess general knowledge of shipboard equipment operation, disassembly/assembly, testing, and record keeping of work performed.
Repair, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on Boilers, pumps, and valves.
Working on board Ships on auxiliary equipment, pumps values, boiler systems
Performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline and marine engines, outboard motors, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals.
Establishes and maintains a preventive maintenance program for marine engines and related marine research equipment.
Tests marine engines and equipment to determine need for repairs or adjustments.
Repairs and maintains hydraulic equipment and valves.
Operates hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair.
Assists in fabrication of equipment.
Skills:
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
2- 8 years’ experience working in the ship repair industry.
Will need to eligible to get access to the Vigor ship yard and eventually get DBIDS for future work
Able to setup and operate shop and portable machining tools or equipment.
Contain general machinist knowledge, including, but not limited to using required measuring instruments, necessary hand and power tools.
Able to read and understand engineering prints, technical manuals, and diagrams.
