Summary of Position:

The successful Controller will play a critical role in the leadership team and will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company's financial/managerial accounting as well as overseeing all financial activities of the company. As head of the Finance department, the Controller will manage and supervise all aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance, overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and financial statements. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for inventory control, budget variance analysis, and month-end closing.

The position will report to the Chief Executive Officer and will assist with the development of internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning as needed.

This is an in person, on site role in Buffalo, New York.

Essential Functions:

• Manage and participate in all aspects of accounting; billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and various special analyses
• Supervise accounting/administrative team
• Maintain documented system of accounting policies, procedures, and work instructions
• Monitor cash and bank balances
• Prepare and organize monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements and reports for review and approval
• Manage the monthly/quarterly/annual budgets and forecasts
• Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with Management and Chief Executive Officer
• Organize information and statements for audits/reviews by external accountants
• Define, benchmark, and implement operational best practices with an emphasis on continuous improvement
• Comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finance, tax filings, and reporting
• Ensuring company complies with all additional legal and regulatory requirements
• Additional Controller duties as needed

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred
• 5+ years of experience in accounting
• 5+ years of experience managing teams
• Excellent computer skills with experience in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, Access, database, or other system knowledge to include Sage and Power BI preferred
• Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Experience in a manufacturing setting with cost accounting
• Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
• Attention to detail
• Superior data management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work well with external clients and vendors as well as with internal departments, including senior executives and board members
• Solid people management skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
