Deputy Sheriff II, Lateral applicants with POST Certificate and experience. The minimum salary is $29.86 however salary is commensurate with the candidates' experience.

Completed applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be emailed to schedule their written exam. An online Candidate Preparation Manual can be purchased for $5.00. The Preparation Manual includes detailed recommendations on important concepts, such as the most effective test-taking strategies and methods, specific information about CPS HR test forms, and what to expect on the day of the test administration. Also includes several practice questions covering each section of the test, along with helpful tools, like a sample answer sheet and template test instructions for candidates to prepare before the day of the test. Written Exam:



The exam consists of a written general aptitude test, with a passing score of 70%, an oral board interview process and a physical ability assessment will follow the written exam. Applicants must successfully complete each of the three phases to be eligible for employment.


After successful competition of the written exam, you will move forward to the physical agility testing. If you live outside of 200 miles from Douglas County we will make an effort to complete your testing in one day and you will be notified.


The written exam and oral board interview will be held at the Law Enforcement Center 1038 Buckeye Rd. Minden, NV 89423 at 8:00 AM. Upcoming written test date: Wednesday, April 17, 2024


You will be notified if your application has been selected to move to this process.



Lateral Deputy Sheriff II:
The written test will be waived for any applicant with a current Nevada Category I POST Certificate. The written test may also be waived for applicants with a valid and current Category I POST Certificate from any state with recognized reciprocity. Please attach your POST Certificate to your application. ***** Application may not qualify if required valid and current POST Certificate is not attached . You will be contacted and scheduled for the physical agility after the application review process is complete. After passing the physical agility you will be notified of the oral interview.



Physical agility requirements:


The Peace Officer Standard Training Committee of Nevada POST has established the physical fitness requirements for graduation from the POST Academy.


The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has adopted similar physical fitness standards.


It may be important that this information be provided to applicants so that they may prepare themselves for the physical fitness testing. The requirements are the same for all applicants, regardless of age or gender.


All applicants seeking employment with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department must successfully complete the following physical fitness standards.


All applicants will be subject to an extensive, in-depth background investigation to determine the applicant's suitability for Peace Officer status. Once an applicant has successfully completed each phase of the testing and a conditional offer of employment has been extended, the applicant will be required to complete and pass a polygraph examination, a psychological examination, a medical examination by a licensed physician of the County's choice. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of these tests.

Retirement – Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada
Douglas County contributes 50% of an eligible Regular Member and 50% of an eligible Police and Fire Member's salary for retirement. Deferred Compensation Plans – Employees can participate in the VOYA Retirement Plans, which is funded by the employee.



Paid Leave
12 paid Holidays per year. Generous paid leave accrual's including 96 hours sick annually, begin accruing 120 hours annual leave each year. Administrative leave of 5 days or 3 days annually applies to some positions. Please refer to our leave policies or relevant labor agreement for more information.



Health Insurance
The County has rich benefits plans to choose from: Preferred Provider (PPO) and Health Savings Account (HSA) with supplemental benefits to include: prescription plan, dental plan, vision, life insurance opportunities, cancer insurance, and disability insurance. Benefit eligibility is the 1st of the month following 30 day waiting period or 60 days, depending on position. Compensation
Douglas County's compensation system is based on Pay for Performance wherein employees are eligible for annual performance evaluations. The current structure consists of merit increases up to 3% on a qualifying employee's anniversary and Cost of Living Adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index during the first pay period of each fiscal year. The COLA will be up to 5% depending on the CPI each year. Additionally, eligible employees can be recognized for outstanding performance, above and beyond the call of duty, and receive additional compensation through the Recognition of Excellence Program.
