Department Information

The core mission of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University in Bloomington is to unlock the mysteries of the human brain and behavior, and to prepare students to apply that knowledge to improve the lives of people around the globe. Job Summary

Dr. Krendl's research uses behavioral and social neuroscience approaches to understand social cognition (the manner in which people process, store, and apply information about others), and how it changes over the lifespan. We are interested in understanding how healthy and pathological (e.g., Alzheimer's disease) aging affects social cognition. We are also interested in questions related to social stigma (e.g., race, age, gender, mental/physical illness), and how being stigmatized affects its targets. This role will work in the lab of Dr. Anne Krendl, Ph.D. Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Assists laboratory personnel including office staff, technologists, supervisors, and laboratory managers in completing testing.
  • Manages laboratory equipment and tools essential to the function of everyday activities in the lab.
  • Primarily responsible for conducting research with a healthy older adult population (individuals over the age of 65).
  • Administers general cognitive assessments, computer-based tasks, and conduct a standardized interview about individuals' personal social networks.
  • Recruits and tests research participants, coordinating research efforts with our team in Indianapolis, overseeing IRB protocols, and supervising undergraduate research assistants.
General Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex research studies.
  • Organizes and implements data review and analysis.
  • Oversees the proper handling of laboratory specimens including processes, shipping, storage, and documentation and transfer to designated central laboratories.
  • Conducts data quality assurance practices.
  • Prepares research summaries and assists in progress report development.
  • Maintains laboratory work areas and supply inventory.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in science or health-related discipline (preferably in psychology or neuroscience)
WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Some laboratory experience

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position may involve minimal travel to Indianapolis

Additional Information

$16.83 per hour - $18.27 per hour

$35,000-$38,000 Annually
