Job Summary:
What’s your team’s core purpose?
The Corporate Communications team oversees the development and management of The Walt Disney Company’s reputation through external and internal communications strategies that support the company’s strategic priorities and vision.
We are looking for an experienced communications strategist and media relations expert to join our Corporate Communications team as the Director, Media Relations to support the Walt Disney Company’s external relations efforts.
What does a person in this role get to do on a daily basis?
- Develop and execute proactive and reactive corporate communications strategies that bring The Walt Disney Company’s business priorities and objectives to life and enhance and protect the company’s reputation with key external stakeholders – including press, consumers, creative partners, shareholders, and industry experts, among others.
- Lead a team of Corporate Media Relations professionals, including the Manager, Corporate Communications, with a focus on top-tier media relations and crisis communications.
- Strategic planning of external communications and media engagement strategies designed to enhance corporate reputation and tell the corporate narrative through stories that drive the company’s corporate positioning and brand efficacy.
- Manage relationships with key business, financial and industry media and serve as top company spokesperson to enhance TWDC’s profile among key external audiences.
- Plan and executive crisis communication response strategies, in collaboration with internal partners
- Work as a thought partner with cross-company business units and content segments, particularly with communications leaders working on issues management to drive storytelling and inform press efforts.
Minimum Requirements:
- BA in communications, journalism, finance, English, or related field.
7-10 years of media relations, corporate communications or public-sector communications experience, ideally in the entertainment industry and government spheres.
Strong media/press relations experience and high comfort level working with media on proactive and reactive issues, while working in a corporate environment.
Demonstrated expertise in communications with media as a company spokesperson, and existing relationships with business press and trade media.
Experience managing a crisis communications function, with a track record of successfully mitigating high-profile business and consumer issues with press, employees, and key stakeholders.
Ability to bring clarity to ambiguous situations and act decisively.
Preferred Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have exceptional media relation skills and experience working with top-tier national and business media.
Financial literacy and knowledge of core business and financial metrics.
Previous experience with The Walt Disney Company.

The hiring range for this position in California is $159,500.00-$219,200.00. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
