Job description
Sinclair, Inc. is seeking a full-time, highly motivated, and detail-oriented Data Acquisition Engineer to join the Enterprise Data & Insights (ED&I) team! The primary mission of the Enterprise Data & Insights team is to empower and enable every Sinclair stakeholder with the trusted, accessible data needed and desired to operate a modern, world-class media company by connecting, democratizing, and managing data to enable transformative insights and data-led decision making.
Sinclair uses industry-leading data management tools and processes, both cloud-based and on-premises. As a Data Acquisition Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining data acquisition processes on the Snowflake platform, with a focus on integrating with various media sources. The ideal candidate has a strong background in data engineering, proficiency in Snowflake, and experience working with diverse media data sets.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and implement data acquisition processes within the Snowflake platform to efficiently gather and integrate data from multiple media sources.
- Collaborate with media teams to understand data sources, establish connectivity, and ensure seamless integration of media data into the Snowflake platform.
- Work with architects to identify and implement engineering standards and best practices.
- Work on data modeling and schema design to optimize data storage and retrieval on Snowflake, ensuring high performance and scalability.
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using industry-leading tools ensuring the smooth movement of data across systems.
- Monitor and optimize the performance of data acquisition processes, identifying and addressing bottlenecks to ensure efficient and timely data ingestion.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business objectives.
- Design, implement, and manage data models that cater to business needs while ensuring data integrity and quality.
- Document data acquisition processes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures to ensure knowledge transfer and maintain a comprehensive knowledge base.
- Implement and adhere to data security and compliance standards, ensuring that data acquisition processes meet regulatory requirements.
- Ensure data quality and consistency during integration by implementing data validation and cleansing procedures.
- Integrate data from various sources, including on-premises and cloud-based systems, utilizing AWS and Snowflake services.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance, identifying and resolving issues in a timely manner.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure proper deployment and maintenance of data pipelines in a cloud environment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data integration issues, working closely with technical teams to identify root causes and implement solutions.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and best practices in data engineering and cloud technologies.
The preferred candidate will have:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer, with a focus on data acquisition and integration.
- Strong proficiency in Snowflake platform and expertise in SQL.
- Experience working with diverse media data sources (e.g., video, audio, images).
- Solid understanding of ETL processes, data modeling and database design principles.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure,) is a plus.
- Basic understanding of programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
- Experience using data reporting and visualization tools (e.g. Cognos, SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities within a cross-functional team environment.
- A passion for learning and staying updated on emerging technologies in data engineering and cloud space.
