Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist I at UL Research Institutes, based in our Marietta, GA lab. The Research Scientist I under general direction, is responsible for assisting in gathering scientific information, conducting research, analyzing data and quality measures, operating analytical instrumentation, implementing measurement protocols, and preparing data summaries and written reports. The Research Scientist works in the Center for Advanced Measurements under the supervision of the laboratory manager to ensure that all processes are accurate and technically sound. Assists with appropriate research initiatives and documentation of protocols as well as day-to-day laboratory/instrument operations and maintenance.

As the Research Scientist I, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL Operations as you:

• Supports various research initiatives on environmental air pollution using exposure chambers and analytical measurements.
• Applies quality measures and management of sampling media to accurately analyze research samples.
• Follow laboratory procedures and adhere to organizational safety and health requirements.
• Support the development of scientific reports and publications based on research.
• Perform other duties as directed.

• Demonstrated general knowledge of chemistry, analytical chemistry, and associated techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain science based academic and applied knowledge and skills.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Basic data analysis skills.
• Ability to collaborate with peers and work directly with Research Scientists and other team members to complete a project from start to finish.

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental chemistry, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of related work experience.
• Research experience is a plus.
