Job description
Mize CPAs Inc. is a leading regional accounting and IT firm with offices in Topeka and Overland Park, Kansas. Our firm works with clients in a number of industries and has a rapidly growing restaurant and hospitality division that serves clients nationwide.
The Big Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain the infrastructure and tools needed to handle large data sets efficiently. The Big Data Engineer is an in-office position based in the Topeka office and can be performed hybrid-remotely after initial training.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage big data solutions for storing and analyzing data in a scalable, secure, and cost-effective manner
- Work closely with developers and analysts to provide the data required and assist in data modeling and query tuning to improve performance
- Implement Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes to integrate data from various sources
- Stay updated with new technologies and advancements in the field of big data and cloud computing, evaluating, and adopting new technologies/tools as needed
- Ensure data privacy and compliance with relevant data protection regulations
- Optimize data workflows and pipeline architectures to improve data processing efficiency
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to data performance and scalability
- Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to ensure the security of data and infrastructure
- Document the architecture and procedures for the systems managed.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- In-office work during training , due to the interactions necessary between the IT team
- College degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- Proven experience in big data technologies
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or similar
- Experience with cloud services and understanding of various cloud storage and computing technologies. (AWS, Azure etc.)
- Knowledge of data modeling, data mining, and data warehouse principles
- Experience with ETL tools and processes
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems
- Good communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and practices
- Understanding of Linux/Unix systems and scripting languages
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and dedication to quality
