Location: Flexible (San Mateo, CA). This role offers the flexibility to work from home, within proximity to our San Mateo location.

The Role

We are seeking a top-tier candidate for the role of Opto-Mechanical Engineer to architect, design, qualify and document opto-mechanical components and assemblies. You will own the mechanical design of lenses and camera modules from concept to mass production and have a direct impact on the world-class GoPro image quality.

What You Will Do  

• Own all aspects of opto-mechanical design for camera modules, including contributions to image quality from design concept to mass production
• Own the opto-mechanical design and validation of optical accessories
• Design and document lens assembly and sensor board mechanical control outlines
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define optimum camera architecture, enable advanced assembly processes and fully qualify the optical system
• Coordinate with operations and manufacturing teams for high volume processes and production
• Coordinate with overseas lens and production part vendors to ensure high quality and on-time product development execution

Skills We’re Excited About

• B.S. in Mechanical or Opto-mechanical Engineering
• 5+ years CAD experience (Creo, Solidworks, or NX)
• Environmental test experience (shock, vibe, thermal cycling, drop)
• Experience generating Mechanical Control Outline (MCO) files and 2D prints for inspection
• Design experience with lenses and camera modules for consumer electronics devices
• High volume mass production experience
• Work experience with Asia ODM partners and manufacturing suppliers

The pay range for this role is between $116,450 - $157,550. Actual pay within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including your residence location and prior work experience. Equity, benefits, and a discretionary bonus may be additional forms of compensation for this role and are not included in the provided pay range.
