Job description

Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʻŌiwi is seeking a licensed medical provider (MD/APRN) to provide mobile healthcare in the community and in our Family Medicine Clinic.

POSITION SUMMARY

This role involves overseeing, guiding, and assessing the medical care of patients at Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʻŌiwi (HMONO) in the field of Primary Care.

The position is responsible for providing primary care services to Native Hawaiians and the general community, both through mobile healthcare home visits and within the clinic setting. This is in accordance with the guidelines established by the Executive Director. Additionally, the role includes the provision of COVID-19 related services, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.

Please note that this position may necessitate availability during evenings and weekends on short notice.

This is a temporary position funded under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and is subject to end on July 31, 2024.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Exercises sound discretion and independent judgement in administering patient care. Promptly addresses urgent or emergency situations to safeguard the health, safety, and wellbeing of the patient. Additionally, oversees and orchestrates the activities of the clinical staff to ensure effective and coordinated care.
  2. Assists in the development and management of Quality Improvement & Quality Assurance (QIQA) activities of HMONO.
  3. Provides island wide direct patient care in accordance with the primary care practice.
  4. Maintains current licensure and certificates as appropriate.
  5. Completes all necessary clinical documentation within 72 hours of patient encounter.
  6. Maintains after hours availability for appropriate on-call activites.
  7. Maintains pharmaceuticals (sample and stock medications) to facilitate access and tracking.
  8. Supervises medical students, resident physicians, and other health professionals at the clinical site.
  9. Assists Medical Director in supervising and coordinating activities of the clinical staff.
  10. Participates and provides direction and supervision to HMONO programs and projects agreed upon and discussed with the Medical Director.
  11. Assists Medical Director in establishing and implementing goals, objectives, and policies and procedures of HMONO and the Primary Care Clinic.
  12. Adheres to the requirements of the Employment Agreement.
  13. Attends meetings as required.
  14. Ensures compliance with regulations and with clinic standards for quality patient care.
  15. Collaborates with other providers and staff to promote continuous quality improvement.
  16. Develops, maintains, and adheres to Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA) and Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations and standards.
  17. Works all assigned clinic hours and meets any and all agree-upon productivity expectations.
  18. Demonstrates computer efficiency; possesses knowledge of word processing, data base processing programs, and electronic healthcare records program (eCW).
  19. Perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. Ability to establish and maintain favorable and comfortable professional relationships with patients, agency staff, and other providers.

2. Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally in an appropriate manner, and with sensitivity to the patient's ability to communicate.

3. Ability to complete complex forms, keep accurate records in an orderly fashion while making clinical entries, and preparing complex reports as directed.

4. Must be able to work under pressure, and in a fast-paced environment.

5. Thorough knowledge of local and state medical resources; understanding of general medical terminology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from an accredited school of medicine or university with Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Family Nurse Practioner (FNP) and completion of an internship at a recognized institution.
  2. Must possess current license to practice medicine and prescribe in the State of Hawaiʻi, board certification in the State of Hawaiʻi, and must have current driver's license and abstract. Must meet current CME requirements and licensure.
  3. Ability to work with multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-lingual and low English proficiency patients.
  4. Participates or eligible to participate with majority of health care plans at HMONO.

This position will maintain only those duties and responsibilities for which they are certified and will be under the immediate supervision of the Medical Director.

5. Two (2) years of experience as a practicing physician​ or completion of primary care residence program.​

6. Current Federal and State Narcotics Certification.

7. Must be able to acquire approved credentialing status and be recognized as a participating provider in the Federal Health Care programs including, without limitation, Medicare, Medicaid, MedQuest, and with all health plans which Hui Malama Ola Na ʻOiwi participates.

8. Must be able to acquire or be covered under a Professional Liability insurance policy.

9. Must possess a current valid Hawaiʻi driver's license and be able to obtain First Aid and CPR/AED training immediately upon employment. Hawaiʻi driver's license, First Aid, CPR/AED certification must remain current at all times.

10. Must have no convictions of a crime (current or within the past 10 years) which bears a rational relationship to the duties and responsibilities of this position.

11. Must be eligible to work in the United States.

CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. First Aid/CPR/AED training

  3. Bloodborne Pathogens Training
  4. Two-step TB clearance
  5. Current Hawaii Driver's License
  6. Reliable and insured vehicle
  7. COVID-19 vaccination

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Familiar with HMONO's mission, programs, and services.
  2. Practical knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture, traditions, history, and current events including, but not limited to State and Federally-funded programs and projects. Keep abreast with Native Hawaiian issues and current events.
