At UT Southwestern’s Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care (CDRC), we believe that a future free from the burden of emotional and behavioral disorders is possible. Our mission is exemplified by the extensive research done in the center on methods to prevent and treat depression and associated disorders, including bipolar, anxiety, and substance use disorders.
The CDRC is looking to add a trained/certified Phlebotomist to join the Psychiatry department.
· Must be trained/certified in phlebotomy. (Upload a copy of your certification/training when you apply.)
· Superb organizational skills and a keen eye for details.
· Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
· College-level coursework in the field of biology (microbiology, molecular biology, or cell biology).
· Experience with molecular biology techniques such as cell, culture, ELISAs, and PCR.
· Master’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment and one (1) year of experience as Research Assistant I or equivalent. OR
· Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of experience, including one (1) year as Research Assistant I or equivalent. OR
· Completion of two (2) years of college or specialized training in histology, serology, medical technology, etc. and five (5) years of experience, including one (1) year as Research Assistant I or equivalent. OR
· High school graduate including courses in basic sciences and seven (7) years of experience, including one (1) year as Research Assistant I or equivalent.
· Performs blood draws on study participants.
· Isolates plasma, buffy coat, serum, and PBMCs from whole blood collected in our clinic. Assists in the transport, storage, and inventory of the biospecimen collected. May develop skills to perform experiments on the samples mentioned here.
· Prepares and submits requests for the pick-up and external testing of samples.
· Operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus such as centrifuges, cell counters, and ultra-low freezers.
· Records data in accordance with prescribed procedures and discusses results with supervisor.
Plans, coordinates, and supervises assigned research projects, which may be limited as segment of larger project, exercising responsibility for project performance and accountability for progress; and/or personally performs advanced scientific and medical research work, suggesting modifications to, or improvements in, design of research projects, presenting original ideas for follow-up studies, and recommending utilization of new or revised techniques and procedures to obtain desired results.
· Constructs, assembles, and operates experimental or other specially designed laboratory apparatus and equipment.
· Assembles and analyzes research data.
· Assists in preparation of material for reports or publication.
· May supervise group of Research Technicians and/or Research Assistants of lower grade, making work assignments, advising on work procedures, and reviewing work in process and upon completion.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
· Work requires thorough working knowledge of various types of equipment used in laboratory to which assigned.
· Work requires extreme accuracy and precision in all phases of experimental investigation.
· Work requires exercise of considerable judgment in application and interpretation of policy, procedures, or practices to work problems.
