Overview
The Diocesan Finance Office of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston assists the Bishop, his staff, and others responsible for the temporalities of the Diocese to fulfill the diocesan mission. Responsibilities include accounting, investment management, financial analysis, budgetary management, and oversight of parishes and schools (including compliance with diocesan and civil laws, regulations, and policies). The office provides accounting services for most diocesan departments and nearly half of our parishes, missions, and schools.
We are seeking an experienced Reporting Staff Accountant to join our team. The Reporting Staff Accountant will report to the Manager of the Parish Accounting Services team and is directly responsible for establishing a working relationship of integrity and trust with the parishes and schools we serve throughout the state of South Carolina.
Responsibilities
- The Reporting Accountant will use independent thought and creativity in guiding our parish and school staff through the accounting process, as well as technical and procedural challenges, new initiatives, and accounting systems and payment technologies, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and Diocesan policies.
- Strong communication skills are necessary to ensure the financial needs, concerns, and queries of all are met in a timely and responsive fashion
- The Reporting Accountant is responsible for coordinating the receipt and recording of financial information received from the location.
- Duties will also include collection of information necessary to prepare sales and use tax filings, 1099’s, proper processing of payroll, recordkeeping, and overseeing and managing financial analysis as it relates to the institution’s financial statements.
- The Reporting Accountant will monitor and oversee risk analysis of the organization’s financial viability in conjunction with loan repayment ability and future financial/capital planning.
- The Reporting Accountant may be required to present to the parish or school finance council and pastor quarterly or annually upon request.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
- Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Proficiency with ADP, Sylogist, and Microsoft 365 applications is a plus.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, multi-tasking, and task prioritization.
- Minor travel may be required on a rare occasion.
