Do you love art and Birmingham’s local art community? Do you have experience with customer service and enjoy working in retail? Do you have experience purchasing and researching sales trends? We’re currently seeking a Purchasing Associate on a permanent basis with flexible hours, preferably 3-4 days a week, around 30 hours weekly. We’re looking for someone with excellent customer service, who’s people oriented and a team player.
By exhibiting exceptional teamwork, boundless curiosity, and the utmost care, the Purchasing Associate will assist their team to fulfill Forstall Art’s commitment to our customers, the Arts, and our local communities. The Purchasing Associate will do this by maintaining outstanding customer service, generating revenue through helpful product knowledge, merchandising, POS operations, and loss prevention in adherence with all company policies and procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assists in purchasing supplies, materials, and parts for the company.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, prices, buyers, and any delivery or supply chain issues.
- Develops and maintains inventory database for supplies and materials purchased.
- Reviews purchase orders for price changes and quantity accuracy.
- Collaborates with sales, customer service, and merchandising departments to maximize efficiency in purchasing and inventory control.
- Communicates with suppliers to resolve issues that may arise regarding delivery, price changes, cost, or conditions of products upon arrival.
- Assists and implements policies and procedures related to purchasing and inventory control with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize profit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of and experience with Art Supplies

- Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and ethics when dealing with vendors, co-workers, and customers.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as inventory software.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Ability to climb ladder.
