Brandeis University
Location
Waltham, MA | United States
Job description
Primary Responsibilities: Brandeis University seeks to hire Fall 2024 instructors to teach sections of Navigating Health and Safety, a six-week module required for all new/incoming undergraduate students.Â
Instructors will facilitate an existing curriculum addressing mental health, substance use, sexual health, consent, bystander intervention and campus resources.
Instructors will use Brandeisâ™ Learning Management System (Moodle) to manage course content and track student progress. Â
In the classroom, instructors will lead group activities and discussions. There is no lecturing.Â
Instructors will teach a minimum of one section per semester and may have the option to teach additional sections. Sections are primarily in person, but a few sections may be offered remotely.Â
In addition to teaching, instructors will complete a six-hour instructor training prior to the start of the semester and complete two check-in meetings per module with a supervisor or program coordinator.
Compensation: $480 per section for instructors who have worked at Brandeis fewer than 6 years. Instructors that have worked at Brandeis for six or more years will receive $536 per section.
To Apply: In addition to submitting your resume on Workday, and in lieu of a cover letter, please respond to the following questions in 2-3 sentences each:
This course is required of all new or incoming Brandeis students (primarily first year students and transfer students). What steps would you take to ensure all students in your course can equitably engage in the content, thinking especially about international students, students with accessibility needs, and students of color?
Why do you think it is important that students are being required to grapple with material around mental health, alcohol and drugs, sexual health, consent, and bystander intervention?
If selected for this position, you would be required to attend a 6-hour instructor training to take place Thursday, August 15th and/or Friday, August 16th based on instructorsâ™ collective availability. What is your availability between 8am and 8pm on those dates? (If many qualified applicants are unavailable on these dates, an additional training date may be scheduled; your unavailability on these dates will not automatically disqualify you from the position.)
For internal candidates: Most class sections will be held during business hours (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm). Do you have your supervisor's permission to instruct a course during this time? (Evening classes are also an option; your unavailability during business hours will not automatically disqualify you from the position.)
Internal Applicants: Brandeis University recognizes the importance of staff development and supports the ability for current employees to apply for internal opportunities of interest that will enhance the employee's skills. Internal applicants will be expected to complete the screening process along with any other candidates.
