Job description
Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is seeking two (2) English and Reading full-time faculty members to start at the beginning of Fall 2024. We are seeking two enthusiastic and dedicated teachers who exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.
In the English and Reading Area, we have exceptionally talented faculty members who incorporate the latest pedagogy and best practices into their teaching. Their practices range from research essays on cultural identities to how social justice issues impact our communities and beyond. Our faculty members use creative and innovative approaches to help students think critically about their lives, their world, and their chosen career paths by incorporating critical reading and thinking skills into their English composition and literature courses. Montgomery College English and Reading faculty members help students develop their skills to integrate digital storytelling, reflective writing, and creative writing into their student success writing toolkit--in addition to the traditional composition research essay. The faculty themselves practice a range of writing skills. They research, present, and write about best practices in teaching, globalizing the curriculum, strategies for enhancing student success, and creating engaging student experiences. Montgomery College's English and Reading faculty continue to publish and present their poetry, fiction, white papers, and research articles. They lead student academic conferences, student scholarly collections, and creative writing publications. These positions are part of a collective bargaining unit.
The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in a multi-cultural environment, and will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities. Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising, professional inquiry, committee work and utilizing instructional technology. The majority of our courses use open educational resources (OERs) to yield cost savings for the students and the most current content for faculty. Incoming faculty will utilize OERs in alignment with the other faculty in the discipline.
Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, on-line, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings and weekends. Montgomery College has three campuses and instructs courses at area high schools. Faculty may be assigned to any of these campuses and/or teaching online.
