Job description
Internshiptrained or experienced emergency doctors wanted for a combination position in Swansea MA and East Greenwich Rhode Island. The main hospital is a 26000 sq. ft with dedicated emergency and specialty centres that serves RI eastern CT and southern MA. There is no general practice associated with the hospitals. Equipment includes digital radiography ultrasound CT MRI laparoscopy mechanical ventilation telemetry fluoroscopy and stateoftheart monitoring equipment. The staff includes specialists in internal medicine surgery radiology emergency/critical care cardiology neurology oncology ophthalmology and avian/exotics as well as a large group of experienced emergency clinicians. The MA hospital is primarily a 24 hour emergency centre but there is a fulltime surgeon and internists are there four days a week. The hospitals are only 20 minutes apart.
The hospitals place a premium on continuing education. Daily case rounds ensure excellence in case management through collaborative discussion and provide an opportunity for continuous learning. There is inhouse education for staff doctors technicians and referring veterinarians. We have a highly respected internship as well as emergency/critical care and surgical residencies which helps to promote a didactic atmosphere and gives the emergency clinicians and specialists ample opportunity for teaching as well as personal professional growth. The support staff is highly trained and enthusiastic about continuing education as well. The technicians working in the intensive care unit are capable of managing most nursing cases including those on mechanical ventilation peritoneal dialysis continuous thoracic drainage etc.
This position offers emergency clinicians a unique opportunity to work in a wellequipped stateoftheart facility sidebyside with a large group of specialists. The emergency doctors do not just work evenings and weekends they work many weekdays inpatient shifts as well giving them the opportunity to manage critical care patients and benefit from the referral hospital environment. The emergency clinicians can choose whether to work at both hospitals or choose to stay at one location. The MA location will be moving into a large stateoftheart facility in the spring on 2024. The RI location is undergoing expansion as well adding a large new intensive care unit as well as office and teaching space. The desire to continue learning and to participate in the teaching of interns and student ex terns is essential and a good sense of humour is essential!
The caseload at both hospitals is high and the cases challenging but the culture is positive and supportive. This is a tremendous environment to continue learning and growing but requires someone with a strong ER foundation.
Compensation is a base salary plus production
