Position Summary:
The Home Infusion/Specialty Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients. Performs sterile and non-sterile compounding. Other tasks include, but are not limited to, filling, referral coordination, communicating with patients and their families, labeling and delivery, cleaning of pharmacy area, inventory management, processing and filling prescriptions and supplies. Software used: CPR+, NewLeaf, Epic, OneTrack, and TherigySTM. Hours may vary depending upon census and program need.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Pharmacy Technician License Illinois; Must submit proof of IDFPR application upon hire date to be eligible for 60 day allowance to obtain license within 60 days and Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) For pharmacy technicians licensed after December 31, 2007. Must be certified within two (2) years of licensure acquired date. Exempt: Anyone enrolled in a first professional degree program in pharmacy and designated a "student pharmacist" by IDFPR. within 2 years or Certified Pharmacy Technician (NHA) For pharmacy technicians licensed after December 31, 2007. Must be certified within two (2) years of licensure acquired date. Exempt: Anyone enrolled in a first professional degree program in pharmacy and designated a "student pharmacist" by IDFPR. within 2 years.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Basic computer literacy. Basic math skills required.
Essential Functions:
- Accurately prepares and submits purchase orders and requisitions for drugs and supplies.
- Answers the telephone, takes messages, and directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Assists in the coordination and completion of the annual inventory.
- Assists pharmacist in coordinating/scheduling preparation of sterile admixtures. Prepares and generates batch for preparation of sterile admixtures.
- Completes pharmaceutical records and other records as indicated.
- Ensures the clean room, warehouse, and related equipment are cleansed and maintained per organizational policy and procedures.
- Generates labels and packages in accordance with the dispensing order and under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Maintains a thorough and accurate clinical record for each patient receiving care. Completes required written documentation in a timely fashion in order to facilitate efficient, safe, and continuous care between team members.
- Monitors for and appropriately returns or destroy expired or unusable drugs per policy/procedures.
- Participate with the pharmacist to enter and process new prescriptions and refills in the computer and to monoitor, maintain, prepare and pack orders for drugs and related supplies for specific patient populations.
- Perform miscellaneous billing functions, including patient charging and crediting, nursing unit charges, and controlled substance charging through manual entry into the computer, or with bar code reader.
- Performs and records various quality control activities and reports outcomes to the pharmacist or clinical supervisor.
- Prepares and delivers enteral nutritional supplements to patient care areas. Maintains enteral records and billing functions.
- Prepares/compounds sterile admixtures using aseptic techniques and under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Updates drug prices in the computer when changes are received under the supervision of the pharmacist or clinical supervisor.
