Job description
We are a very small, growing bakery that makes sourdough breads and some pastry. We're offbeat people, mostly from outside the food world, in an out-of-the-way location that have a loyal following and prioritize having a good time at work. Our main products are sourdough breads and an evolving menu of pastries and cookies. We're building a sort of treehouse/pirate ship/bread cathedral inside a timber mill which is home base to our home-delivery bread subscription program and weekend retail days. We like books and silly jokes and music and people.
We're looking for an experienced baker, with at least two years of professional bakery experience (or serious home baking) with naturally leavened breads and pastry. You must be able to combine large batch production with high attention to detail and quality. Communication skills, organization, teamwork, dependability, and an ability to give and take instruction are essential. Being handy, friendly, interesting and quick to laugh can all help too, as well as things like computer, spreadsheet, or design abilities because we're sort of building this ship as we go and diverse skills (both hard and soft) often come in handy. We are absolutely not looking for a high-ego hotshot type who executes perfectly but doesn't laugh or get along with others. We're a very small team so you should have a sense that you feel at home with our vibe and vision because we spend a lot of time together in the bakery, and bakery morale is number one. Right now we're really just putting our feelers out to find the right kind of people, not necessarily to fill a specific set of roles or hours.
