The Poveda lab is seeking a temporary research technician to assist with data collection, sample processing, and specimen management for projects related with seed corn maggot biology and control. The elected candidate will assist in different tasks that allow the identification of sustainable tools for monitoring, controlling, and assessing the risk of this pest in New York State. Primary duties for these projects will include identifying flies on sticky cards, scouring seeds for seed corn maggot damage, preparing materials for the field season, helping set up bioassays, and taking data in the field and the lab. You have to be prepared to work under field conditions, which can vary from extreme cold to heat, for long periods. This is a full time, 39 hour per week position with an anticipated end date of June 16, 2024.
Requirements:
Candidates should have experience related to laboratory, greenhouse, or fieldwork, data entry/management, and the ability to drive a vehicle. Preferred candidates will have experience with insect identification and sustainable management in crops.
