Job description
The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Public Safety Analyst in the Police Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform a wide variety of analyses to provide timely and pertinent information relative to crime patterns and trends. You will assist operational and administrative personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of criminal activities, aiding the investigative process and contributing to internal policy. You'll utilize the Berkeley Police Department’s Transparency Hub and software programs to analyze department and develop data tools for use both internally and externally.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, public administration, urban affairs, statistics, or a related field and at least two (2) years of professional experience in crime analysis or systems operations.
Experience in a law enforcement environment working with GIS, familiarity with National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) protocols, and a State Department of Justice Crime Analysis Certificate are desirable.
Must successfully complete a Police Department background investigation and evaluation, including a criminal history investigation. Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to problem solve (independently and with a team), perform complex data analysis and communicate results in an approachable way to internal and external stakeholders.
