POSITION TITLE: Deputy Director
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
LOCATION: Primarily Remote, with domestic and international travel as needed for events and programs
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, full time 40 hours/week
COMPENSATION: $95,576 annually, plus industry-leading benefits including unlimited paid wellness days, 1 year paid postpartum leave, 4 weeks paid organizational break, full medical/dental/vision
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Primary goals of this position are to:
- Lead, manage, and evaluate all Nurturely team members and departments
- Manage the implementation of fundraising, communications, and research goals and the funding mechanisms necessary for sustainability of these new departments
- Take on the day-to-day management of all aspects of Nurturely’s operations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -
Equity & Inclusion (requirement for all activities)
- Prioritize intersectionality, equity, and inclusion in all activities
- Demonstrate personal and professional commitment to tackling racism, anti-Blackness, and all forms of global oppression
Fundraising & Communications Management - (40% of time)
- Recruit and manage a talented team for Development and Communications.
- Provide team mentorship and foster an inclusive culture.
- Lead the implementation of our fundraising and communications strategy
- Execute campaigns to enhance Nurturely's mission and impact.
Research & Programs Capacity Building - (40% of time)
- Oversee research projects from start to finish, with high scientific excellence
- Bridge research and programs to boost community benefits
- Provide feedback and mentorship across research and programs teams
Organizational Implementation and Operational Efficiency - (20% of time)
- Manage daily operations and facilitate team collaboration aligned with goals
- Serve as the main link between the Executive Director and all staff
- Regularly assess and enhance system performance and processes for efficiency.
- Use KPIs for goal tracking and adapt strategies as needed to stay leading.
- Improve processes for better efficiency, cost reduction, and smooth operations.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE -
- In addition to the following desired qualifications, Nurturely also values all types of lived experience and community-based apprenticeships:
- Masters in business or healthcare administration, or PhD in public health, psychology, anthropology, sociology, or related field
- Comfort with managing the implementation of nonprofit fundraising, research, and communications strategies and evidence of success in developing teams and organizational departments from scratch
- Strong organizational, schedule management, project management, and problem-solving skills with impeccable multi-tasking abilities
- Awareness of research grant mechanisms (including NIH)
- Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to equity and advocacy
- High proficiency in Airtable
- Basic proficiency in GSuite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Quickbooks with an ability to learn more advanced skills in organization-specific tools and software
- Exceptional communication skills (oral/written English), bilingual/trilingual is bonus
- Experience as a Deputy Director, Chief of Staff, Chief Operating Officer, or Operations Director at a fast-paced, equity-centered organization
