Electronic Resources Specialist, University Libraries

Physical Location:

Kent Campus - Kent, OH

Salary:

$45,600

Basic Function:

Manage and perform selected electronic resources processes and assignments within University Libraries’ Serials and Electronic Resources Department. Reports to Manager, Electronic Resources - University Libraries.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:  

Process and maintain subscription renewals, including cancellations, vendor changes, review and pay subscription invoices in the integrated library system, and perform daily posting in University Libraries integrated online system.

Communicate with subscription vendors regarding invoicing issues, payment status, renewals and payment term adjustments as needed and work with library budget office to resolve payment issues.

Maintain subscription order records with regard to pricing, term adjustments, vendor contact information, and other notes as applicable. Record and monitor subscription renewal schedules and license expirations.

Generate e-resource records and maintain current data in an electronic resource management system (ERM) including platform administrative log in and password information.

Provide usage analysis support for Electronic Resources and Collection Management.

Communicate with publishers, vendors, and library staff at Kent and Regional Campuses on behalf of University Libraries concerning subscription services and usage statistics.

Organize, develop, and evaluate workflows for special projects as assigned, such as IP address review.

Compile and review lists of new electronic resources added to the collection (DDA, OhioLINK ebooks, etc.) and add appropriate user access notes.

Write and revise workflow documentation.

Serve on University Library and external committees as requested and/or required.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and three years of relevant experience in a comparably-sized academic or public library.

-OR-

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in the field of serials and electronic resources.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Technical procedures of acquiring, processing, or providing access to serials, E-books, and electronic resources *
Integrated library systems, such as OhioLINK and Innovative Interfaces Library Systems *
Electronic resources management software (ERMS)
Personal computer applications, with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet
Standards, protocols, and structures such as COUNTER Code of Practice, SUSHI Protocol, Internet protocols (IP) and file transfer protocols (FTP), OpenURL/z39.50, EZproxy, electronic data interchange (EDI)

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication *
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills *
MARC record format, bibliographic citation research and management
Spreadsheet analysis and reporting
Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite *
Basic research skills

Ability To:

Work independently and as part of a team *
Provide leadership and direction *
Use judgment and exercise initiative *
Balance priorities, meet deadlines, and prioritize work while managing multiple projects and assignments
Learn to use various computer applications and online systems
Prepare and maintain reports and statistics

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Master’s degree in a relevant field. Prior collections management or serials management experience. Core Competencies for E-Resources Librarians.
