Job description

The congregation of Sunset Hills Baptist Church in Brentwood, TN is seeking a full-time Children’s Director. The Children’s Director is responsible for creating, managing, and directing all aspects of children’s ministry (birth through 5th grade), that includes but may not be limited to, Sunday School, Wednesday night activities, VBS, nursery, and special events. The Children’s Director will report to the Senior Pastor and work in cooperation with the other ministry staff to accomplish the vision and values of the church.

At Sunset Hills Baptist Church, we host a blended, multi-generational worship designed for the whole family. We believe that our children are both a gift given by the Lord and a responsibility of the parents in partnership with our congregation for biblical teaching. We desire to utilize both Scripture and God-centered activities that will allow our children to learn actively and with excitement for the Lord.

Professional and Spiritual Growth:

·       Exhibit growth in Christian faith and character.

·       Serves as a spiritual leader of the church.

·       Serves as a leader by example in personal discipleship, stewardship and evangelism.

·       Spend an appropriate amount of time in study and prayer in preparation for leading children’s worship.

Leadership-Vision:

·       In consultation with other church leaders, define a vision for the children’s ministry that contributes to the church’s overall vision.

·       Develop a ministry plan to achieve the defined mission.

·       Recruit, develop, and deploy children’s ministry volunteers.

·       Lead efforts to minister to the parenting needs of the church body.

·       Regularly report to the church’s leadership about the accomplishments of the children’s ministry.

·       Develop an annual budget for the children’s ministry and operate within the constraints of that budget.

·       Manage all children’s ministry staff that work with children from infancy through fifth grade.

·       Participate in general pastoral duties as needed (weddings, funerals, counseling, etc.).

·       Create annual goals to support church vision.

·       Be available to preach and teach the Bible in adult worship service when asked.

·       Assist and engage volunteers in the overall ministry of the church.

·       Maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilating new children and families.

Ministry of Children:

·       Oversee all programming for children’s ministries throughout the church.

·       Choose and prepare curriculum for each program and each age level.

·       Create environments, activities and programming for each age group that will facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth.

·       Establish and maintain a security system that protects children in our church’s care.

·       Plan and oversee special events related to children and families, including Vacation Bible School, fall festivals, etc.

·       Maintain the integrity of the children’s Bible teaching time by ensuring the instruction is consistent with the doctrinal convictions of the church.

·       Identify and execute ministry and missions opportunities for children to participate in.

·       Provide care for children and families within the church including hospital visits and follow-up.

·       Reviews all curriculums used by the children’s ministry and ensure they are consistent with the church’s doctrinal commitments.

REQUIREMENTS:

·       A sense of calling toward children’s ministry.

·       Bachelor’s degree preferred (preferably in education or Christian ministry).

·       Children’s ministry experience preferred.

·       A desire to teach and mentor children in biblical truth.

·       A growing Christian faith and character.

·       Ability to pass a background check and subject to financial and driving record checks.

·       Strong organizational and leadership skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·       Understanding of and willingness to serve within the doctrinal commitments of Sunset Hills Baptist Church.

·       A commitment to the mission of Sunset Hills Baptist Church.

·       A lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders (1 Tim. 3:1-13; 2 Tim. 2; Titus 1:5-9).

Pay: Commensurate based on experience
