Conference and Events Audiovisual Specialist - Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology Job Summary The Conference and Events Audiovisual Specialist will be the primary AV liaison for all conferences and events supported by the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology. The incumbent will collaborate across customer levels and staff to plan, facilitate, and support AV needs for events sponsored by the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB). This position requires a person with interest and familiarity with various computer systems. The candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills with all stakeholders.
Duties & Responsibilities - AV Customer Service and Support
- Actively maintain relationships with the user community, proactively communicate relevant information, and stay informed of user needs and initiatives.
- Setting and managing the expectations of customers; acting as an advocate for IGB clients in event planning and implementation across the organization; and resolving customer satisfaction issues.
- Independently interface with the advance staff of VIPs (external faculty, CEOs, government officials, etc.) to ensure that special events (press announcements, partnership investigations, high visibility conferences, etc.) planning satisfies all their AV needs.
- Meet with customers to verify the AV needs of events sponsored by the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology.
- Assist with the planning and support of conferences and other special events.
- Assist with setup and support of hybrid meetings.
- AV System Support Liaison
- Encouraging and providing training for best practices regarding using AV Technologies in all conference spaces.
- Work with IGB Computer Networking Resources Group (CNRG) to ensure proper operation of all conference spaces in the IGB regularly.
- Organizational Support
- Partnering with IGB CNRG customer support staff on the support of AV technology.
- Collaborate with other campus audiovisual technicians to enhance the overall support of AV for the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology.
- Attending and contributing to weekly events planning meetings.
Additional Physical Demands Environmental Demands
- Interacting with users face-to-face.
- Lifting/moving equipment (tables, chairs, microphones, etc.)
- Occasional travel to off-campus event sites. Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years).
- Demonstrated customer service experience. Demonstrated troubleshooting experience. Preferred Qualifications One (1) year of work experience in customer service. Experience working in a higher education setting. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to contribute strongly to cross-functional groups assigned to tasks or project work.
- Ability to oversee and coordinate activities of user groups.
- Ability to effectively communicate and professionally interact with all staff levels and customer groups.
- Ability to identify technical problems.
- Ability to solve minor technical issues.
- Demonstrate composure and efficacy while working under high-pressure situations

- Ability to demonstrate fundamental knowledge of effective troubleshooting methodologies.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after closed date. The minimum salary for this position is $60,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
