INI Teaching Track and Non Tenure Track Faculty Positions 2020-21 | Carnegie Mellon University

Carnegie Mellon University

Location

Mountain View, CA | United States

Job description

The Information Networking Institute (INI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is soliciting applications for faculty at all levels for CMU's main campus in Pittsburgh, PA, and Silicon Valley campus in Mountain View, CA. We are primarily seeking teaching track faculty candidates, however there are opportunities for special track faculty and/or research track faculty jointly with other departments at Carnegie Mellon.

The INI is part of Carnegie Mellon's College of Engineering, a Top Five engineering school as ranked by U.S. News and World Report. The INI offers technical, interdisciplinary master's degree programs in information networking, information security and mobile and IoT engineering. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of these fields, the INI collaborates with several departments in the College of Engineering, the School of Computer Science, the Tepper School of Business and the H. John Heinz III College in order to equip students with advanced knowledge in technology as well as a disciplined foundation in business management and policy. INI students have the unprecedented flexibility to take courses across all of these reputable colleges.

We are seeking faculty candidates in our core technical areas of networking, security and mobile and IoT engineering, including but not limited to: mobile computing, embedded systems, Internet of Things technologies, telecommunications, data analytics and machine learning, information security, software security, network security and cyber operations. Outstanding candidates in other areas related to networking, security and mobile and IoT engineering are encouraged to apply. Teaching track faculty have a primary responsibility of designing and leading courses and projects for INI students and typically teach three courses per semester. They may also have additional research and service responsibilities. Because of our focus areas and mission to provide graduate students with relevant skills for industry careers, INI faculty positions are more dynamic than most academic positions, with the resources and ability to affect the talent pool for the tech industry. We value teaching faculty because of their real-world experience, not despite it. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching a diverse student population. The position is open to individuals who hold a Ph.D. in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or closely related fields. Depending on a candidate's teaching history, industry experience, and qualifications, positions will be offered at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor as appropriate.

We believe our people -- students, alumni, faculty, and staff -- are our core strength. We emphasize excellence, integrity, respect, collegiality, interdisciplinarity, continuous improvement and engagement in community, all within a welcoming, supportive and inspiring teaching and learning environment. We are particularly interested in applicants who are committed to, and have a passion for, a culturally diverse environment in teaching and research, and who demonstrate a willingness to nurture the inclusive Carnegie Mellon environment. We take pride and active steps towards considering a diverse applicant pool in terms of gender, race, veteran status and disability.

CMU is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its community on a range of intellectual and cultural dimensions. Carnegie Mellon welcomes faculty applicants who will contribute to this diversity through their research, teaching, and service, including: women, members of minority groups, protected veterans, individuals with disabilities, and others who would contribute in different ways.

Individuals interested in INI's open faculty positions should apply online. We will continue to accept and review applications until the position is filled.

Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, CV, separate teaching and research statements appropriate for the position(s) specified in the application, diversity statement, and three references who will be asked to provide confidential letters of recommendation. If desired, candidates can include additional references and materials with their application.

Carnegie Mellon University shall abide by the requirements of 41 CFR §§ 60-1.4(a), 60-300.5(a) and 60-741.5(a). These regulations prohibit discrimination against qualified individuals based on their status as protected veterans or individuals with disabilities, and prohibit discrimination against all individuals based on their race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Moreover, these regulations require that covered prime contractors and subcontractors take affirmative action to employ and advance in employment individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, protected veteran status or disability.
