Coordinator of Research Programs - Psychology University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign The Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign invites applications for a Coordinator of Research Programs to work with Professor Benedek Kurdi's Social Cognition Laboratory on research related to the learning and memory processes that enable humans to acquire and update their knowledge about other humans, both as individuals and as members of social groups.
Job Summary The Coordinator of Research programs will work closely with Professor Benedek Kurdi and other lab members in all aspects of running the lab and conducting research within the Social Cognition Laboratory at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Duties & Responsibilities - Coding of experimental studies in JavaScript, PsychoPy, and other languages as needed
- Analysis of experimental and archival data in R, Python, and other software as applicable
- Using computational and machine learning techniques (including word embeddings and reinforcement learning) to model individual and large-scale social behavior
- Providing support for creating a phone-based app to track and intervene on explicit and implicit social attitudes within individuals over time
- Lab Administration (purchasing items for lab as well as working with the Psychology Procurement team on bigger purchases, assisting in implementing IRB protocols, scheduling participants, reading/analyzing grant reports and providing feedback to Dr. Kurdi regarding the reports)
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in psychology, computer science or a related field
Preferred Qualifications - Experience collecting and analyzing data in a laboratory setting
- Experience cleaning and analyzing large datasets
- Experience in administrative and/or customer-facing roles
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Desire and ability to quickly learn new computer skills and software
- Familiarity with R, Python, JavaScript, and/or another computer language
- Ability to help maintain lab website and social media presence
- Ability to solve problems proactively, work independently, adhere to deadlines, lead/support/train undergraduate research assistants, and work independently
- Ability to easily and quickly pivot from one task to another

Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The minimum salary for this position is $38285. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
