GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Regional Director of STEAM is an essential member of the Aspire Public Schools and will lead, develop and focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) and regional support for schools. This Regional Director will have to have the ability to understand and lead the complexities of teaching a range of courses, which use principles that are motivating, engaging, real-world; where students integrate and apply meaningful and important mathematics and science content; and courses focus on design, teamwork, communication, and multiple pathways for learning. The Regional Director of STEAM will drive the highest quality STEAM pedagogy, curriculum and assessment through the following responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pedagogy and Programmatic Leadership:
- Collaborate on an evolving vision for STEAM that is rigorous, standards aligned and equity based. Collaborate with Aspire colleagues to determine an approach to drive educational equity in STEAM and recommend how we allocate resources and programs accordingly. Ensure that vision and program are guided by Culturally Responsive Teaching Strategies.
- Participate in monitoring school instructional performance (such as Program Inquiry Walks and Instructional Rounds)
- Support and develop leaders to have an inquiry-based and student-centered learning approach in STEAM
- Contribute to the development of multi-year Regional Strategic Action Plans, including theory of action and measures of progress; and support annual strategic planning for our STEAM program including action steps, owners, and timelines and ensure implementation.
Curriculum, Instruction, Data & Assessment:
- Backwards map, cohere, and align curriculum, instruction,and assessment from CCSS across grade levels and courses to meet achievement targets.
- Drive STEAM curriculum roll-out cycles at the regional level including establishing timelines, providing feedback on curriculum implementation and augmentation/customization.
- Provide observation and feedback on the implementation of the curriculum.
- Research latest curriculum and assessments and integrate best practices into ASPIRE curriculum and assessments.
- Conduct audits of STEAM curriculum including unit plans, lesson plans, and projects. Develop and design in collaboration with instructional colleagues, instruction to address STEAM trends.
- Develop Project Based Learning experiences to push rigor and engagement as a supplement to the current curriculum.
- Drive STEAM assessment cycles at the regional level including establishing timelines, writing and/or providing feedback on assessments and supporting documents, communicating school scheduling and providing support in scoring/norming.
- Identify and participate in regional and school progress monitoring systems, data analysis, and adjustment of strategy and supports to meet targets.
- Analyze data on STEAM assessments to identify goals and trends.
- Lead continuous improvement of STEAM curriculum, instruction and assessment based on insights (qualitative and quantitative data) from students across the region.
- Create region level action plans to address STEAM data; develop and design network instruction to address STEAM trends.
Professional Development
- Design, lead and support instructional leaders to lead professional development for school leaders, teachers and ed specialists that is aligned to the STEAM vision. Ensures explicit connections between coaching and professional development with the Transformational Leadership Framework (TLF) and Aspire Students Learning Framework (ASLF).
- Contribute to development of Principal, Supporting Administrator, Teacher training scope and sequence, and developing STEAM content and assessment knowledge.
- Write and deliver high-quality, highest lever STEAM PD that addresses wide trends and data needs
- Gather cutting edge research for STEAM as it relates to acceleration.
Logistic and Team Management
- Manage yearly pacing calendars and scope and sequences for the network for STEAM.
- Work collaboratively to action plan components of the ASPIRE instructional program as it evolves.
- Directly supervise 1 or more teammates to support regional vision, STEAM program, and school support.
- Communicate important curriculum, instruction, and assessment dates, deadlines, and revisions.
Organizational Relationships
- Works closely with the Regional ILT and Data Team to maximize the ability of Aspire Public Schools to interrupt inequities in STEAM education for our young people.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
- Vast knowledge of the CA Common Core Standards in Mathematics and familiarity with NGSS standards.
- Demonstrated ability to write effective curriculum units with an equity based pedagogy.
- Instructional leadership and teaching experience required: proven results in student learning as both an instructional leader and a teacher
- Curriculum and assessment writing experience required
- Experience in schools with adult learning and professional development required
- Outstanding ability to lead, including influencing and motivating others
- Ability to learn quickly and to be effective in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment: able to work autonomously and thoroughly with independent self-reflection, as well as take direction as needed
- Demonstrated educational philosophy and methods that encourage the development of active and lifelong learning
- Exceptional understanding of a progressive approach to instructional and a wide knowledge of the most innovative, culturally responsive, and successful instructional methods
- Ability to demonstrate creative and flexible thinking
- Strong time and task management skills, enabling multiple projects to be completed on time
- Alignment to and urgency around Aspire’s mission, vision and values
- Excellent team player: always puts the team’s goals first and works to support and motivate peers
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to move comfortably between high level strategic thinking and intricate details
- Excellent ability to drive change and build buy-in through relationship building
- This role may require travel up to 80% time to schools across the region and may require some periodic travel to all Aspire regions and/or other locations for conferences/professional development
- Comfort with engaging in conversations that might push people out of their comfort zones, especially in regards to discussions about race and educational equity

Minimum Educational Level:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Master’s Degree preferred
Experience
- A minimum of 5+ years of Teaching and Leading experience in an education setting is required.

Our salary range, based on years of experience for this position type is: $106,317 - $136,481.
