Job Description
A senior staff clinician provides individual, couples or group therapy to a diverse outpatient population. They participate in weekly staff meetings and peer supervision, attend staff retreats and may supervise graduate students. The Child and Family Specialist is a psychotherapist who works primarily with children, adolescents and families and has the clinical skills to diagnose and formulate treatment for a broad range of childhood disorders.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnosis, clinical formulation and treatment planning
- Individual and/or systemic psychotherapy skills
- Clinical staff participation
- Center administration and development
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Professional Services
- Providing the number of agreed upon clinical hours
- Maintaining electronic clinical records in keeping with Center policies and procedures
- Working with the administrative staff to set and collect appropriate fees
- Representing the standards and practices of their primary professional field
Clinical Staff Participation
- Working cooperatively with staff colleagues, consultants, and referring professionals
- Actively participating in clinical staffing and case consultations
- Attending administrative staff meetings, staff retreats, and other team building activities
Center Administration and Development
- Participating in the development of the Center’s referral network
- Performing administrative and development tasks as assigned
- Participating in the Center’s programs of education, consultation, and community relations
Education and/or Other Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s or doctor’s degree in mental health counseling, psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, pastoral counseling or equivalent
- Licensed as a mental health provider by New Hampshire, or soon to be licensed

- Mastery of a coherent theory and practice of therapy
- Mastery of child and family therapy
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents and recognize systemic problems
- Ability to utilize play therapy and expressive therapies such as art or sand-tray therapy
- Ability to network and coordinate care with schools and other child agencies
- Ability to use the language and methodology of differential diagnosis and familiarity with the contributions of various diagnostic tests
- Ability to assess a client’s therapeutic needs, to establish a therapeutic relationship, and to conduct, complete, terminate, and evaluate that therapy
- Ability to relate the contributions of various disciplines to the therapeutic task and to make appropriate use of inter-professional collaboration
- Ability to integrate spiritual beliefs and practices with the therapeutic process
- Ability and willingness to develop and cultivate his/her own caseload by representing the Center in the community and relating to referral sources
- Ability to establish and maintain appropriate personal and professional relationships and boundaries both within and outside the Center
