Overview TRC is seeking an
Environmental Field Technician to join our Liverpool, NY Engineering, Construction, and Remediation (ECR) team. The successful candidate will collect samples for environmental analyses and perform routine operation and maintenance activities and periodic trouble shooting on remediation systems. We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, and personable individual with hands on skills, an eye for detail, quality, and a desire to be part of a growing and high performing team.
The position requires full-time field work and the work is based in the Binghamton, NY area and may involve associated travel throughout the year. Some weekend work and occasional extended travel may be required. A valid driver's license and good driving record are required. The successful candidate will also be required to pass certain client safety training programs, and will be enrolled in a medical surveillance program.
The successful candidate needs to work well on teams as well as be self-motivated and organized to work independently; be detail oriented; and have good organizational skills. Must be adaptable to frequently changing assignments. Must be very safety and quality conscious, abide by TRC and client-specific health and safety policies, and be willing to take safety and quality aspects to higher levels. Comfortable with using current and new technologies such as collecting field data on tablets, PCs, or smart phones.
Responsibilities - Perform varied types of field work associated with environmental projects
- Collect soil, soil-vapor, and groundwater samples
- Collect landfill gas samples
- Collect samples from groundwater and vapor extraction systems according to client/permit/engineering program requirements
- Assist in preparing quarterly groundwater compliance, investigations and summary reports, boring logs, cross sections, and groundwater contour maps in accordance with EPA and state guidelines
- Interpreted and technically report geological field data
- Perform general subcontractor oversight
- self-perform (where applicable) field-related activities related to remediation system operations (piping repairs, pump maintenance, troubleshooting, etc.).
- Have strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
- Hands on mechanical and construction experience and aptitude is a plus.
- Candidates must be able to lift and carry a 50-pound load
Qualifications - 1-3 years of extensive remedial Operation & Maintenance experience in the environmental industry.
- Experience collecting and preparing soil, soil gas, indoor air, surficial and residential water samples, including groundwater for laboratory analysis
- 40-hour HAZWOPER health and safety training certificate (with an up-to-date 8-hr annual refresher course certification).
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or Geology preferred but not required.
- Ability to monitor, and sample, aquifer characteristic testing (via pump and slug tests), land surveying, sink hole investigations, emergency spill response services, environmental drilling activities, and soil vapor point installation and associated sampling
- Experience with site investigation and remediation of indoor air, soil, groundwater, drinking water, and free-phase product for clients with technical/regulatory issues
- Candidates are required to successfully pass a drug test prior to employment or within five working days from date of hire.

In accordance with local law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $45,000-$65,000. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
