Who We Are:
Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12 grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

What We Need:
The School Bus Driver will be the individual who will be responsible for safely operating the school bus on a daily basis for in-district transportation and transportation to student activities/field trips. He/she must ensure that the school bus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus and obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Operate the school bus in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
  2. Strictly adhere to State of Illinois requirements for safe operation of a school bus.
  3. Operate their assigned bus safely at all times, under all types of road and weather conditions.
  4. Report all accidents promptly to the Manager of Transportation and Child Nutrition.
  5. Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
  6. Clean the bus as scheduled and/or required.
  7. Ensure the bus is safely and securely stored.
  8. Advise the Manager of Transportation and Child Nutrition of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
  9. Pick up and deliver students as per a set schedule.
  10. Take attendance on the school bus.
  11. Ensure students are aware of rules and responsibilities as passengers.
  12. Maintain order and discipline on the school bus.
  13. Make note of any behavioral or disciplinary problems.
  14. Maintain communication with District and/or School office personnel.
  15. Implement emergency plan in the event of an accident.
  16. Communicate effectively.
  17. Maintain a positive, professional, respectful and courteous manner when interacting with the district staff, students, and the public.
  18. Conduct end-of-day safety and security check by inspecting and locking vehicle.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Transportation and Child Nutrition.


Qualifications:
  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Must have high school diploma or GED.
  3. Must have had a driver's license for the past three (3) years (no breaks) prior to application.
  4. Possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) class "B" license with airbrakes and passenger endorsement.
  5. No DUI or reckless driving charges during the past five (5) years.
  6. No more than one (1) speeding ticket or moving violation during the past year.
  7. Pass a criminal background check that includes fingerprinting.

Work Environment: The School Bus Driver has a moderately strenuous job. The Driver must sit for long periods and requires intense concentration, particularly in poor driving conditions.



Terms of Employment: Full - Time



Compensation: Per SEIU Contract
