Who is the Junior Linux Systems Administrator?

The Junior Linux Systems Administrator is part of a small and dedicated team that supports our clients and staff, from end-user applications/infrastructure to cutting edge computing and storage systems in the datacenter. This role is the second line of support for all client-related requests.

In this role, you can expect to:

• Assist with Security and Compliance activities for server equipment, ensuring the data and computing resources are secured and in stable condition.
• Utilize familiarity with Linux-based service functionality and troubleshooting to provide proactive support.
• Perform imaging of servers utilizing common imaging tools.
• Interface with technology vendors to solve routine issues.
• Participate in incident calls and client meetings as a subject matter expert, in conjunction with more senior IT teammates.
• Utilize knowledge in server security baseline, basic server troubleshooting and maintenance skills, and grow knowledge by working in partnership with more senior teammates.
• Perform patching, hardening, and automated deployments.
• Assist with development and maintenance of operations guides and process documentation.
• Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions and action plans, escalating complex issues to more senior teammates for support.

Please be aware: while this role typically works remotely M - F from 9am - 5pm, role responsibilities include certain onsite datacenter activities (server maintenance one Saturday per month) as well as on-call for emergency support rotating every other week.

What do You Need?

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• 2+ years of relevant professional experience supporting enterprise-level Linux environment, to include experience assisting with Linux operating system maintenance and upgrades, applying security updates/patching, schedulers, transaction logging, and security hardening.
• Experience with and knowledge of Linux-based service functionality and troubleshooting, Linux Shell(bash) scripting / bash shell, MySQL, Postfix, IP tables, and server imaging.
• Ability to research server issues and related components and locate information quickly and accurately.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate/communicate with cross-functional teams and client contacts alike.
• Ability to perform server maintenance one Saturday per month and on-call for emergency support rotating every other week, as outlined above.
