POSITION SUMMARY:
Kelly Government Solutions is looking for a highly skilled Vector-Borne Disease Research Associate to join their team, focusing on molecular biology techniques and research on vector-borne diseases. This role involves conducting advanced laboratory experiments, handling BSL-2 pathogens, working with laboratory mice and ticks, and analyzing genome-wide nucleic acid sequence data. The ideal candidate will maintain a strong knowledge of scientific literature, contribute to peer-reviewed publications, and adhere to strict biosafety standards. This position requires a blend of technical expertise in molecular biology, microbiology, and immunology, as well as strong communication and collaborative skills.
TASKS. The contractor shall:
Perform molecular techniques including RNA/DNA extraction, RT-PCR, and qPCR.
Conduct immunostaining, flow cytometry, cell culture maintenance, ELISAs, and Western blot.
Prepare and analyze RNA/DNA sequencing, perform in vivo inoculations, and handle necropsy and tissue processing.
Grow BSL-2 bacterial pathogens in compliance with biosafety standards.
Work with experimentally infected laboratory mice and manipulate ticks for pathogen studies.
Perform dissection of infected mice and ticks, purify nucleic acids, and use electron microscopy for imaging.
Analyze quantitative, genome-wide nucleic acid sequence data.
Assist in writing, preparing, submitting, and publishing scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Communicate research findings with the Federal Task Leader and lab members.
Maintain the laboratory space in compliance with safety and biosafety standards.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of experience in microbiology, immunology, or vector-borne disease research.
Experience with animal and/or arthropod manipulation is highly desirable.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with a history of publications in internationally recognized journals.
Strong communication and writing skills.
Ability to write, submit, and publish research papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Effective collaboration skills with both intramural and extramural colleagues.
